The pure water we receive from the East Branch of the Brandywine Creek that begins its journey to us just under 14 miles from where we brew with it. We’ll be celebrating this water (insert your lite beer joke here) with our anniversary beer, Headwaters Pale Ale, due to be released February 15, 2011. Now, considering that beer is the product of four simple ingredients and the three other than water rely on water for their existence, we’ve had a fair amount of latitude in paying homage to water in our beer. So, we’ve played all of our cards deftly, bringing the hops, malt and yeast in harmony, with our great local water as the conductor in Headwaters Pale Ale.

The head is good, body orange. It smells hoppy, aromatic, fruity, refreshing. The taste is bitter, citrus, fruity, refrehing, tasty, nice!

This one pours clear and golden with a moderate white head and strong grassy and musky aromas. Hops are noticeable up front with a taste of citrus, spicy, herbal, and lemon peel. There is a mild malt presence that provides some balance but lets the hops stand out. The hop bitterness lingers long after each sip. This is another excellent offering from Victory that is both true to the style and very drinkable with an enjoyable complex hop profile that surprises.

Pours from 12 oz bottle a clear, pale yellow body with a white head. Aroma of citrusy and lightly spicy hop notes, great malt profile. Flavour of citrus fruits, some grass, tropical fruits, light toffee sweetness, and a bitter, grapefruit finish. Overall decent.

Pours gold into a pint, capped with a thick and rocky, off-white head. The head sticks around, but in minutes there is only the slightest cap covering the golden liquid. It keeps the aroma locked in and tight around the mouth of the glass. I have to get close to really get a draw on it. The aroma is yeast, lightly malty with very little hops involvement, and from the first sip to the fifteenth, I find the flavor doughy with an accent of caramel floating over the top. The taste is bitter, with a long dry finish on my tongue. The afterward is not exciting, and if I don’t keep sipping, the flavor on my tongue goes from meh to ich. The combination of hops, malt and yeast is far from a balance in my experience here, and I’m not as excited about this presentation from Victory as I would like to be. It’s a pretty beer, but if my experience is consistent, it wouldn’t have a place in my fridge.

330mL bottle. Pours a clear golden colour with a small white head. Aroma of zesty citrus which is also present in the flavour with a doughy yeast flavour and a biscuit malt backing.

Sample at Örebro Öl & Whisky 2014. Smell of cookies, citrus and hops. Similar hoppy smell with citrus and a maltbase that reminds me of cookies. Nice and refreshing.

Bottle from Sugaya. Caramel, malty nose, with citrus/pine blend, quite earthy. Deep orange/amber color. Fruity initial, moderately intense hopping, light fruit in finish. A bit dry, with small hop tracks. Medium body. Nice, well-hopped pale ale.

UPDATED: NOV 18, 2014 An alluring aroma is backed up by the hop-forward full bodied flavour. An excellent beer that is closer to an IPA than a Pale Ale (to my taste at least).
