The pure water we receive from the East Branch of the Brandywine Creek that begins its journey to us just under 14 miles from where we brew with it. We’ll be celebrating this water (insert your lite beer joke here) with our anniversary beer, Headwaters Pale Ale, due to be released February 15, 2011. Now, considering that beer is the product of four simple ingredients and the three other than water rely on water for their existence, we’ve had a fair amount of latitude in paying homage to water in our beer. So, we’ve played all of our cards deftly, bringing the hops, malt and yeast in harmony, with our great local water as the conductor in Headwaters Pale Ale.

330 ml bottle.
Pours a dark copper amber colour with a small head. Aroma of strong floral hops, citrus and pale malts. Flavour of strong floral hops, citrus, rather strong herbal notes, marmalade, biscuit, pine needles and white grapes. Medium bodied, smooth mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Finishes bitter, dry and citrusy. Good.

Pours amber. Smell is fruit and tea and malt. Taste is earthy and tea like. Some fruitiness and nice bitterness. Good body. Good beer but not spectacular.

I love the taste of hops and you can taste them in this brew. I downgraded the appearance score because the head dissipates so quickly as does the lacing. The head while its there is made of big bubbles like champagne not the flavorful tiny bubbles. But I do really like this beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle sampled at a tasting event. From notes. Pine resin and a good dose of citrus. Very good.

This wasn’t one of my favorite Victory pale ales. I tasted this brew from a 12oz bottle. I’m guessing it was one of the hops used in the beer that didn’t quite agree with my palate. I sensed a sour and metallic taste up front in the body. That pretty much spoiled the rest of the beer for me. The second half of the flavors weren’t as harsh, as the beer smoothed out to a fruitier and grassier profile. The beer finished extremely dry and a bit spicy.

355ml bottle. Clear orangey dark golden to amber colour with small to average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Piney and citrus fruity hop aroma, notes of grapefruit, pineapple, caramel malty background. Taste is minimally to moderately sweet caramel malty, citrusy hoppy, slightly piney, crisp bitter hoppy finish. Solid, down-to-earth APA.

Bottle into pint glass, typical clear amberish golden color with white head. Aroma of piney/citrus hops and caramel-leaning malt sweetness. Taste adds almost herbal note to the nice balance of caramel malt and hop bitterness. Light body, moderate carbonation, crisp, dry with lingering bitter finish. Good above average APA.

Pours bronze with white head, nice bubbles, and great lacing. Aroma of citrus hops and some caramel. Taste is the same with some tropical fruit, grapes, and grapefruit. Well balance and tasty.

Fruity hop aroma evident immediately from the newly opened bottle. Moderate head with lingering lacing. Crystal clear amber. Nice complex hop aroma from the glass with malty undertones. Body is good for a pale. Mouthful of fruity resinous hops with an adequately malty base. Finishes with a pleasant lingering bitterness. Nicely done.
