COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The pure water we receive from the East Branch of the Brandywine Creek that begins its journey to us just under 14 miles from where we brew with it. We’ll be celebrating this water (insert your lite beer joke here) with our anniversary beer, Headwaters Pale Ale, due to be released February 15, 2011. Now, considering that beer is the product of four simple ingredients and the three other than water rely on water for their existence, we’ve had a fair amount of latitude in paying homage to water in our beer. So, we’ve played all of our cards deftly, bringing the hops, malt and yeast in harmony, with our great local water as the conductor in Headwaters Pale Ale.

12 oz. Clear bronze with a large spongy head. Orange, flowery honey, light resin and metallic aromas. Tastes of Orange Creamsicle, spicy resin, and earthy honeycomb. Peppery wood and oily resin finish is a nice counter to the malt and flowery hops. Light body is soft, slightly oily, well-balanced and crisp on the finish. Excellent session ale.

Pours a clear golden color with a small white head. A sweet honey and herbal hop nose. The flavor is a clean and crisp PA: honey, lemons, biscuit. Very dry. Extremely drinkable.

This is a fantastic little ol’ pale ale. Deliciously sessionable with a nice maltiness up front matched with an excellent hop finish. All you can ask for in a pale ale.

Pours a clear pale amber with a medium foamy white head...nice lacing. Aroma is grassy, earthy and spicy...hint of grapefruit and light roasty malt. Flavor is more citrusy than the aroma suggests but still has some earthy and spicy notes and lightly roasted malt. Mouthfeel is somewhat light and a tad watery...finish is dry with spicy hops and mild roastiness.

This is a groovy pale ale. I’m not a huge IPA nerd myself, so I generally tend to gravitate towards the pale ales and appreciate their mellow bitterness and great aromatics more than harshly hopped IPA. It’s got a great clear, light-amber body with two fingers of marshmallow-white head. Good retention and a spotty lace. Smells like floral, citrussy, piney hops on top of dry biscuity malt. Straightforward and damn good. Hop flavor hits up front, but quickly give way to bready malt and a bit of implied grapefruit from the olfactory. Clean, bitter finish. Impressive malt presence without becoming sweet and juicy or losing the bitter dryness. Full and prickly carbonation feels just right for this refresher.

Bottle. Pours an orange color with a small off white head. Notes of citrus, grass, honey, and fresh air. Nothing crazy stands out but still a solid beer.

Bottle. Light amber, small to average and fully diminishing head. Moderate, malty and sweetish aroma, caramel and some fruitiness, some bread and light piney hoppyness. Body is medium, malty and sweetish flavor, caramel and some fruitiness, some bread and piney hoppyness. Finish is average, malty and lightly sweetish, faint fruitiness and some piney hoppyness, caramel. Caramel sweetish pale ale - could use more hoppyness.

12 oz bottle that says "enjoy by Sept 19 2011." Hmm. Pours a clouded light amber with a white head. Aroma is honeyish at first, some stale floral hop aroma, stale biscuit. Flavor is biscuit, again rather stale, light honey, stale herbal and citrus hops. This doesn’t seem to have held up that well.

(12oz bottle best by Jul 18, 2011 thanks to Dixonian) clear orange-ish with a ring of white bubbles. Nose of umami, orange/grapefruit, pine, a bit candied citrus, and bread. Taste of bread, candied citrus, spicy, and rye. An oily body with a nice linger.
