COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The pure water we receive from the East Branch of the Brandywine Creek that begins its journey to us just under 14 miles from where we brew with it. We’ll be celebrating this water (insert your lite beer joke here) with our anniversary beer, Headwaters Pale Ale, due to be released February 15, 2011. Now, considering that beer is the product of four simple ingredients and the three other than water rely on water for their existence, we’ve had a fair amount of latitude in paying homage to water in our beer. So, we’ve played all of our cards deftly, bringing the hops, malt and yeast in harmony, with our great local water as the conductor in Headwaters Pale Ale.

Bottle. Pours a dark honey. Pillowy white head. Fresh grapefruit aroma. Small lacing. Classic PA bitterness with a crisp dry finish. Bitter dry mouthfeel. I’m more of an IPA fan then the PA however this one is very well done and tastes very fresh even though the bottle was not new.

I like the ideology of this beer, being that I live right by the Brandywine. There’s a local pride knowing that the water in this beer is the same stuff running through my faucet. Pours a dark golden-brown with a light haze and an off-white head. nose is piney, with lots of caramel, citrus, and toast. Flavor is nice and bitter in the front, with loads of pine and citrusy hops. On the back end, it changes to a flush of caramel, and a finish of cereal malts and chex. Well-balanced.

Nice enough pale ale. Appealing citric hop nose, hop flavors also citric but tending toward resiny with a hint of blue cheese. Medium bitterness in finish. Malts a little bready, dry, crisp. Amber color, good drinker.

UPDATED: AUG 28, 2011 Bottle. Pours a clear and light copper with a thin head. Aromas remind me of grain silos with a little bit of a light grassy edge. Flavor is pretty thick with malt sweetness... kind of halfway between honey and caramel with a nice grassy finish to it. Maybe a little bit of oranges thrown in as well. Nothing earthshattering here, just a decent pale ale.

Pour from a 12 oz bottle. Copper-gold brew with two fingers of head. Nice hoppy aroma. Taste is crisp and clean - relatively light malts at the start quickly giving way to complex hops. Finish is clean and bitter with a short lingering afertaste. Hops on par or better than many IPA’s, but definately a Pale Ale in style - light, crisp, refreshing, complex, great character. A worl class pale ale.

Pours a nice golden color and is clear. Aroma has a slightly sweet malty smell along with nice hop aroma. The taste is a slight bit bready, but is very crisp. The hops balance the maltiness very well. Smooth finish which leaves a pleasant malty aftertaste.
