COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The pure water we receive from the East Branch of the Brandywine Creek that begins its journey to us just under 14 miles from where we brew with it. We’ll be celebrating this water (insert your lite beer joke here) with our anniversary beer, Headwaters Pale Ale, due to be released February 15, 2011. Now, considering that beer is the product of four simple ingredients and the three other than water rely on water for their existence, we’ve had a fair amount of latitude in paying homage to water in our beer. So, we’ve played all of our cards deftly, bringing the hops, malt and yeast in harmony, with our great local water as the conductor in Headwaters Pale Ale.

12oz. Bottle: Aroma of hops, light pine, grass, light resin, light citrus, light orange, and light marijuana. Poured amber in color with a small, off-white head that lasted throughout. Slightly hazy. Sparkling. A few tiny particles throughout. Good lacing. Flavor is medium bitter. Tastes of hops, pine, light citrus, slight malt, light marijuana, and a hint of caramel. Medium body. Tingly, then dry texture. Average to slightly lively carbonation. Medium bitter, hop, pine, light citrus finish is dry.

Fresh bottle. Huge hoppy nose, huge grapefruit and big pine, has that sticky gritty note of some of the best and most aggressive PNW IPAs. Body is orange with steady waves of carbonation rather than a trickle, and a sudsy cream head. Light-medium body is bitter and lightly gritty, bone dry and aggressively hoppy. Caramel base but the malt is underplayed, clean and well drunk. Seems like a minor uptick in Victory’s quality of late, and this one’s a flavor monster at 5.2%.

12Oz. Bottle - best by Oct 18,2011: With a thick, foamy, off-white head this pours a nice copper color. Definite pine notes up front w/ citrus and some spice; not much malt. Nice rounded mouthfeel, on the lighter side of medium in body, crisp/light carbonation. Very nice, but a little watery near the finish. First taste was full of hops. This mellows on drinking, with lingering bitterness leaving me wanting another sip. Biscuit malts balance the hops. Excellent APA, in my opinion and another great beer from Victory.

Lighter amber with dense white head. Orange/citrus pine nose. Hops not a prominent in bitterness, malt is fuller than nose. Light palate. Hops provide a bit green hop flavor.

6 pack best before August 22, 2011. Purchased at BBM. This is a darn good pale ale. It is to pale ales what Stoudt’s pilsner is to pilsners. The aroma on Headwater is nice and hoppy with citrus, melons, and a bit of herbs. A doughy note is also very noticeable and makes this quite palatable. The flavor is clean, well balanced and crisp. There is that doughy-cracker thing that almost reminds me of a pils, but the yeast is slightly fruity and the bitterness leans towards citrus more heavily. Talk about a session ale, this is a winner.

I’m getting a more herbal noble hop nose than some of the other reviewers. Crisp.

On draught.Clear copper in color with light lacing. Citrusy hoppy aroma, weak body slightly watery with light carbonation. Light bitterness in finish with notes of tangerine. Overall refreshing and lightt all the way around.
