COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The pure water we receive from the East Branch of the Brandywine Creek that begins its journey to us just under 14 miles from where we brew with it. We’ll be celebrating this water (insert your lite beer joke here) with our anniversary beer, Headwaters Pale Ale, due to be released February 15, 2011. Now, considering that beer is the product of four simple ingredients and the three other than water rely on water for their existence, we’ve had a fair amount of latitude in paying homage to water in our beer. So, we’ve played all of our cards deftly, bringing the hops, malt and yeast in harmony, with our great local water as the conductor in Headwaters Pale Ale.

Beautiful fresh hop aroma. Lots of pine and citrus in the aromatic profile. Bright golden color and very drinkable.

12oz bottle pours out hazy orangish/yellow color with off white head and lacing that clings. the aroma of citrus hops is prevelant. you also get a bit of biscuity malt. the flavor is smoooooth...the citrus of the hops is there but not really any type of bitterness. a very good beer.

12oz bottle. Pours hazy orange with white head. Aromas of sweet malts, orange and a little bit of biscuit. Flavors of sugary malts, faint hop bitterness, and some citrus. Basically a malty mess at this point. I am guessing this is old at this point.

Overall poorly balanced. More malty than hoppy. Not a refreshing finish. Could be drier.

Bottle: The aroma consists of caramel and mild citrus hops. It pours a slightly hazy amber with a two finger orange tinged off-white head that quickly fades to a ring around the edges of the glass. There’s a decent amount of sticky webbing left on the edges of the glass. The flavor starts with light-moderate caramel with a hint of fruit. The finish has some light pine and grapefruit hops with a touch of peach. Medium bodied with mild carbonation and a somewhat soft mouthfeel. Overall...as soon as a smelled this I knew it wasn’t fresh. I had never seen this on shelves before and assumed it was. The best buy date is September 19, 2011. It says it’s in anniversary beer, but if it’s ever brewed again, I’d love to give another go at it.

Bottle: Clear gold cider look with a small fuzzy white ring head. Wonderful aromas of apricot, grapefruit and toastiness. Great hoppy flavor for a pale ale. Crisp and dry in the finish.

This is a hell of a beer. It is a plain Jane golden color with a small head but that’s about the only negative thing I can say about it. It is a crisp and light APA with lots of citrus and a bit of grassy character to keep things nice and even. It’s light bodied w/o being watery and solidly carbonated without being prickly or overbearing. It’s pretty dry w/ only enough sweetness to balance the firm herbal hop bitterness in the finish. A lot of people think hops and they go for the big IPA or IIPA. This in my opinion is an equally good showcase for how American hops can work in a brew, as a crisp lemony counterpoint to sweetness which increases drinkability w/o assaulting your taste buds.

Draft. Clear, pale straw color. No head. Musty aroma. Taste is off, bitter but not right. I love strong hoppy beers... This is not for me.

Draught from Brouwerij Lane. Pours a heady golden hue. Hops aroma, mild pine and clean finish. Very refreshing.
