The pure water we receive from the East Branch of the Brandywine Creek that begins its journey to us just under 14 miles from where we brew with it. We’ll be celebrating this water (insert your lite beer joke here) with our anniversary beer, Headwaters Pale Ale, due to be released February 15, 2011. Now, considering that beer is the product of four simple ingredients and the three other than water rely on water for their existence, we’ve had a fair amount of latitude in paying homage to water in our beer. So, we’ve played all of our cards deftly, bringing the hops, malt and yeast in harmony, with our great local water as the conductor in Headwaters Pale Ale.

great hop aroma full of guava, papaya, and citrus. flavor is light but also lots of tropical fruit ending with soft bitterness. could use more maltyness, but pretty tasty and good hop character.

This is the finest pale ale I’ve ever had. Excellent hop aroma and flavor with citrus and pine. Clean, crisp and very drinkable. Hoppy enough to be an IPA with only a light touch of malt sweetnesss. Excellent. I was a bit surprised by this beer because I’m not a big fan of Hopdevil.

Draft at Dexters. Filtered orange-tan. Thin, steady head. Sessionable, medium bodied, rather straightforward. Clean filtered bod, some orange citrus as a backbone. In line with Prima and HopDevil. Fresh, well done.

12oz bottle, enjoy by 4/29/12. Pours a clear yellow gold with a smallish rocky white head that retains well and laces the glass some.

The aroma is sweet bready malts and piney hops.

The flavor is sweet, slightly vegetal, malts and a little fruit with a good sized resiny grassy hop finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with some prickly carbonation.

Overall, a decent pale ale.

Bottle. Pours amber-gold with a medium white head. Aroma of hops, and a bit of fruit (apple?). The flavor is surprisingly hoppy for a pale ale, quite reminiscent of the excellent Three Floyds Alpha King. The finish has faint bready and metallic notes that mar the beer slightly, but it’s still a first-rate pale ale.

transparent orange, frothy large bubbled cream head. Dank, resinous pine nose, bit of orange and mango freshness, light bitterness to keep free of any sweetness. Flavor a bit sweet, cheesy, toasted grain and light orange and mango, lightly resinous and sticky through finish.

12 oz.bottle. Pours a thin, short duration white head, over a clear, light amber (SRM7) body....nose is citrus, pine, toffee....taste is pine, grapefruit peel, light toffee.caramel, touch of cereal, finishing with a medium resin layer....mouth feel medium, carbonation high. This is a fairly typical APA. It has a nice hop bite, balanced by the malts, finishing clean and crisp. BJCP 7/3/14/4/7

12oz bottle pours out hazy orangish/yellow color with off white head and lacing that clings. the aroma of citrus hops is prevelant. you also get a bit of biscuity malt. the flavor is smoooooth...the citrus of the hops is there but not really any type of bitterness. a very good beer.
