COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The pure water we receive from the East Branch of the Brandywine Creek that begins its journey to us just under 14 miles from where we brew with it. We’ll be celebrating this water (insert your lite beer joke here) with our anniversary beer, Headwaters Pale Ale, due to be released February 15, 2011. Now, considering that beer is the product of four simple ingredients and the three other than water rely on water for their existence, we’ve had a fair amount of latitude in paying homage to water in our beer. So, we’ve played all of our cards deftly, bringing the hops, malt and yeast in harmony, with our great local water as the conductor in Headwaters Pale Ale.

Appearance is a rich gold with a finely bubbled 1 finger head. Aroma is stony/mineral-y, slight citrus, and a hint of toasted grain. Really nice balance, smells enticing and highly drinkable. Taste is limestone, light crystal malt and finishes with a nice citrus punch. Light to medium bodied, this brew is slick on the palate with crisp carbonation and a dry citrusy finish; a bit light-bodied for my taste but more body would diminish this beer’s refreshing quality. Overall, this is a fantastic example of beer terroir---the true centerpiece of this brew is the water; you can smell it, see it, and taste it. The unique minerality of this beverage is perhaps the most remarkable example of a "water-forward" beer as opposed to a hop- malt- or yeast-forward beer.

12oz bottle. Enjoy by Aug 4 2011. Aroma of wooded earthy hops. Amber color, lacey white head. Nice hop scent on top of a bready caramel malt. Flavor of a sharp bitterness of citrus at first, then a sweet malt, and finishes off with a fizzy refreshingness as it flows down stream into my belly. A very nice, welcoming, session American Pale Ale. 05.13.2011 6,4,8,4,16

gpekar (470) - Florida, USA - JUN 30, 2011
Poured a crystal clear copper amber with a tall lightly creamy off-white head. The head reduced to about 1/2 inch and left a light amount of lacing. The aroma was mostly grapefruit with a little bit of a roasted malt sweetness. The initial taste was a light citrus one followed almost immediately by a mild hops bite. The citrus hops flavor becomes more prominate in the middle and fades gently into the finish

UPDATED: OCT 9, 2011 [3680-20110416] 12floz bottle. Sweaty spruce evergreen hops aroma has a hint of toasted flower petals. Clear, orange body with a quick foamy off-white head. Oily spruce resin hops flavour has a lingering tree needle-like tea aftertaste. Medium body is just a little bitter. Lovely balance but has some strange burnt vegetable oil characteristics. [3893B-20110819] Tap. Minty citrus aroma. Slightly hazy, orange body with a long-lasting creamy off-white head. Bitter citrus grapefruit peel flavour. Medium body is fairly bitter. Tasty. (7/3/7/3/14) 3.4

Excellent pale ale. Knock the edge off the hop devil and you have this one. Great color and flavor, grape fruity hop, a little citrusy and floral, but not to the point where it gets annoying, good session beer.

Pours a deep golden color with foamy white head. Aroma of grassy hops. Flavor was deep and balanced with sweet malts and earthy, citrus hops. Very well done pale ale, refreshing and easy drinking.
