COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The pure water we receive from the East Branch of the Brandywine Creek that begins its journey to us just under 14 miles from where we brew with it. We’ll be celebrating this water (insert your lite beer joke here) with our anniversary beer, Headwaters Pale Ale, due to be released February 15, 2011. Now, considering that beer is the product of four simple ingredients and the three other than water rely on water for their existence, we’ve had a fair amount of latitude in paying homage to water in our beer. So, we’ve played all of our cards deftly, bringing the hops, malt and yeast in harmony, with our great local water as the conductor in Headwaters Pale Ale.

Pours like a stronger looking pale lager. Clean fresh sharper pilsner aroma, almost pierces. Oooo, borders on IPA territory. Bitter strong ipa/pils combo. Hah, they use the word lattitude in the description. Somewhat astringent lingering finish.

Orange gold pour with a mild floral, pine and currant aroma. A very nice orange peel and hop taste with a bitter finish. The aroma tricked me into thinking this would have more bite.

UPDATED: NOV 10, 2011 Pours clean sharp golden amber with two fingers of sticky white head. Spicy hop profile on the nose with some citrus rind and grassy notes. Crisp palate with a mild grapefruit rind bite. Light malt sweetness and notes of hay and green grass. Pretty tasty.

Bottle into a tulip glass. First off, the aroma was full of heavy citrus and grassy/floral notes. Some pine in their, too, but not as much as many other pale ales I’ve tried. Pour was great! Nice frothy head similar to the way a cappuccino makes. Messy lacing and a see through golden-brown body. Great taste! Solid hops bring a nice solid grapefruit/pumelo flavor with some pine and grass notes following up. A touch of sweetness counteracts the hop bitters. Might sound crazy but the finish has a slight flavor (from the hops) that reminds me of hose water that you would drink when you were outside playing sports when you were a kid. VERY refreshing and easy on the palate. Would go great with some sushi. Easily the most enjoyable APA I’ve ever had.

On tap at Pints for Pets. Nice floral hoppy aroma, very light malt sweetness. Little bit of pine and resin, snappy and clean. Medium golden amber clear with very thin white lacing head. Medium to light watery body with medium-high carbonation. Starts fairly dry with light acidity, good hoppy bitterness with very few esters. Very nice hop profile, sitting above an almost phenolic or tannic grain bitterness. Hops come in next, bitter with a bit of rubbery beany, noble hop after.

Bang-on APA style, good citrus bitterness. Golden, good head, good hop aromas. A bitterness in the 60 range, years ago what would be called by many an IPA. Above average mouthfeel, satisfying. A bit of a palate shredder in bitterness, so not for everybody. Very flavourful; very drinkable.

Very pale golden-straw colour. The aroma is very citrusy and orangey. A bit of light resin and a bit of light lemongrass and pepper as well. A little bit of zestiness and sweet citrus. Fairly assertive bitterness. A little bit of lemon peel and some white pepper. Well-balanced and quite tasty.
