The pure water we receive from the East Branch of the Brandywine Creek that begins its journey to us just under 14 miles from where we brew with it. We’ll be celebrating this water (insert your lite beer joke here) with our anniversary beer, Headwaters Pale Ale, due to be released February 15, 2011. Now, considering that beer is the product of four simple ingredients and the three other than water rely on water for their existence, we’ve had a fair amount of latitude in paying homage to water in our beer. So, we’ve played all of our cards deftly, bringing the hops, malt and yeast in harmony, with our great local water as the conductor in Headwaters Pale Ale.

UPDATED: APR 29, 2011 Nice to see Victory trying something without tons of hops. Still good, but a slightly hoppy pale ale.

Pours a copper/amber with a manilla head. Really nice mix of PacNW hops and herbal noble hops along with some toastiness. Flavor has notes of caramel, noble hops, grapefruiit/pine, lemon, grass and toasty malts. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Nothing you haven’t had before, but man, this is a pleasure to drink.

12oz bottle. Pours a crystal clear, golden colored body with a finger-width, dense and foamy, white head that dissipates slowly and leaves a moderate lacing. Aroma is grassy and grainy with a good amount of lemon-lime. Slightly bready, some florals, and resins. Flavor is similar. Pale malts with some bread, grass, grain, and lemon-lime. Some florals and a light earthy pepper before this finishes dry, grassy, and piney with some resins. A bit thin on the malts and almost watery. Lengthy aftertaste following a light body and moderate, crisp carbonation. Overall, a pretty nice pale ale. Light and easy drinking with a nice, grassy and bright citrus. The grainy malts work well, but its a tad thin. Despite that its enjoyable, clean, and refreshing.

Great pale ale. Good forming head and great colored ale. Love the taste of the bitter hops. Crisp.

My favorite at victory! This was a nice copper color. Aroma was herbal and earthy hops, light caramel malt. Tasted of herbs and citrus, medium sweetness and bitterness. the Biterness lasts a bit. Really enjoyed this one, solid pale ale.

Bottle courtesy of jcb890. Served in a Hill Farmstead wine glass. Pour yields a copper-orange beer with a thin white head that doesn’t stick around too long and really doesn’t leave much lacing behind. The nose brings forward some citrus and floral notes. They are certainly faint, but come out more as the beer warms up and are quite noticeable with a good, hard sniff. Taste is a bit on the light side, though enjoyable. There’s a generic "hop character" but nothing really pops out. Feel is slightly bitter with good carbonation on a medium body. Quite drinkable. Not a huge standout, but with this ABV and overall profile, I could see myself coming back for more of this. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 03-15-2011

Pours pale orangish color with off white head. Floral hop aroma with some citrus and bready malts. Bitter grapefruit rind flavor with some toasted malts. Medium body with average carbonation. A decent APA.

Bottle. Amber bodied with a moderate, frothy white head. Malty and hoppy nose with hints of caramel, spicy hops, light citrus and light toffee. Caramel, big malt notes, spicy hops, floral notes, light toffee and fruit round out the flavors in this beer. Body is medium but has a pleasant chewiness to it with a mellow carbonation feel. Ends with more spicy hops, floral notes, big malt, bready notes, caramel and light toffee. Nice session style pale ale.

Couple pints at Dos Perros, Durham. Mostly clear orange pour, with a faint earthen cloudiness to it. Thick body and a yummy looking creamy head, gathering all the bubs into it. Nose is softly fruity, some dry and very clean hops, and substantial bready malts. Mouthfeel is quite thick, almost as if it’d been drawn from a cask. Flavor is well balanced, with considerable dry hops (fruits more modest in the flavor than in the nose), with malts giving the body heft enough to make this a very smooth and refreshing APA.

Bottled. Poured clear lighter orange with a short, dense cap of white head. The aroma picked up sweet, lightly toasty pale and bready malts with lemon and floral accents.. a touch of honeyed backing.. well-balanced and pleasant. The flavor found honey and bready malts at the core, a touch tangy along with grassy bitterness on the edges.. more bitter, picking up some lemon on the finish. Lighter-bodied and a tad sharp on the palate.. too many sugars to be really refreshing.. a decent drinker overall.
