The pure water we receive from the East Branch of the Brandywine Creek that begins its journey to us just under 14 miles from where we brew with it. We’ll be celebrating this water (insert your lite beer joke here) with our anniversary beer, Headwaters Pale Ale, due to be released February 15, 2011. Now, considering that beer is the product of four simple ingredients and the three other than water rely on water for their existence, we’ve had a fair amount of latitude in paying homage to water in our beer. So, we’ve played all of our cards deftly, bringing the hops, malt and yeast in harmony, with our great local water as the conductor in Headwaters Pale Ale.

Amber gold with modest, creamy, white head / Big nose of weed and pine, with underlying citrus notes / Medium body, soft carbonation, a touch watery, with good, lightly biting, finish / Flavors of fresh cut pine, weed, orange, and grapefruit / Spectular nose, but the flabby body detracts.

12oz bottle from K&L Redwood City. Clear bright copper appearance with a one finger whitish head. Nice hoppy aroma - but not too hoppy. Rather piney with some sweet malt presence. The flavor is good and balanced. Good malt base, mostly pilsener with some caramel presence. Pine and grapefruit hop notes. Pretty tasty. Medium body with some resins on the mouthfeel and carbonation on the softer side. A solid pale ale overall.

On cask at the Winking Lizard 3rd Annual Real Ale Fest 3/26/11. Clear amber pour with a thin white head. Dank and floral aroma with some tropical fruit and grassy hop. Dank malt flavor with a crisp grassy hop finish.

Light copper in the glass with a thin white head. Aroma of pine, citrus, and spruce. Decent balance between the malt (with light caramel notes) and hop bitterness.

Bottle at a company function, good job company! The pour was amber orange in color (they even had glassware to pour the beer into!!!), decent initial off-white colored head and lacing. The aroma was pine and citrus hops, light floral too. The flavor added some light caramel malts, herbal notes, to go along with the nice and assertive citrus and pine hops, much like a west coast pale ale, a more refined version of SNPA, which I like without refinement anyway! Mouthfeel was moderate in body, well carbonated, clean finish. A good drinkable pale ale to chill with. Nice job, Victory!

Light, clear orange, with a nice half-inch of fluffy white head.Lacing is rather minimal. Sweet citrus, floral hops, combined with nice sweet malt backbone. Wow,very inviting. I love this very pleasant aroma, nice citrusy hops are there right in your nose, with the steady level of malt sweetness. Yes. Upon sip, what I experience in the nose is pleasantly repeated on the tongue. Good bitter citrus hops, yet very restrained, which is appropriate for a pale ale. Sweet caramel malts. Good medium body, with average carbonation, not too much, just the right amount of it. Yet another winner from Victory, they never cease to amaze me, and always fail to dissapoint me.

Grapefruit and earth in the nose and maybe a bit of Pennsylvania, it’s in the water ya know? Dark gold appearance, clear, between 2 and 3 on the rating. A bit of the German hops in the palate, hefty hops, thin on the malt for the APA style, decent, not great.

UPDATED: JUL 2, 2011 Semi-cloudy copper color. Small pure white head. Bland and bitter aroma. Pale bitter flavor. This beer tastes more like a pale ale than any other pale ale I have ever had. Good job Victory. Weak falling lace. Mild compared to IPAs on the hops, but does not dissapoint. Cheers Penn.

Crisp, clear copper coloured body with a very thin (one centimetre tall) off-white head. Aroma of fresh resinous and grapefruit hops with some good malt and caramel in the nose. A bit of a dry and light scent comes as well. Light-bodied; Sharp hoppy flavour at first then dies down almost immediately with a little malt, a touch of earth and some mild caramel sweetness. Aftertaste is pretty simple and only showing malt and hops, in that order - no sweetness nothing special at all, really. Overall, a pretty underwhelming beer in my opinion. Okay, but not really worth going out of your way for. I sampled this 12 ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in Chantilly, Virginia on 27-March-2011 sampled at home on the Eastern Shore of Virginia on 01-April-2011.
