COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The pure water we receive from the East Branch of the Brandywine Creek that begins its journey to us just under 14 miles from where we brew with it. We’ll be celebrating this water (insert your lite beer joke here) with our anniversary beer, Headwaters Pale Ale, due to be released February 15, 2011. Now, considering that beer is the product of four simple ingredients and the three other than water rely on water for their existence, we’ve had a fair amount of latitude in paying homage to water in our beer. So, we’ve played all of our cards deftly, bringing the hops, malt and yeast in harmony, with our great local water as the conductor in Headwaters Pale Ale.

Pours a clear bronze with a minimal white head. Nose is semi-toasty cereal, I’m thinking cheerios, with an herbally, grassy (somewhat skunky) hop profile. Flavor is also toasty cereal grains, a little sweet, the hops have a bit of a resinous and floral character. I can tell that the water makes a difference. I really think the brew tastes "cleaner" but not "better". It finishes bitter and slightly metallic. Medium-thin mouth feel. Not worth the $11.50 a sixer you have to pay for it here.

Deep amber appearance with a large, off white head and light lacing. Citrus and floral hop aromas set the stage for a nicely balanced taste. Caramel malts provide a modicum of sweetness but the hop bill helps distinguish this one from many run of the mill APAs. In fact, if the alc was a bit lower it could be mistaken for a session IPA. Medium bodied, decently carbonated mouthfeel with a lingering finish.

Earth and herb scent. Dark gold colour, little carbonation or head. Medium dry malt. Mild hops, slight late bitterness and fruit. Brings a hopped Pilsner to mind.
