COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The pure water we receive from the East Branch of the Brandywine Creek that begins its journey to us just under 14 miles from where we brew with it. We’ll be celebrating this water (insert your lite beer joke here) with our anniversary beer, Headwaters Pale Ale, due to be released February 15, 2011. Now, considering that beer is the product of four simple ingredients and the three other than water rely on water for their existence, we’ve had a fair amount of latitude in paying homage to water in our beer. So, we’ve played all of our cards deftly, bringing the hops, malt and yeast in harmony, with our great local water as the conductor in Headwaters Pale Ale.

Had it as part of a sampler pack, and although it was the worst of the 4 beers its still a 4/5 for me, gonna be looking for more Victory beers in the future. It’s like a restrained version of an IPA, where they stop dumping in hops when you’ve established a nice smooth, tasty beverage.

UPDATED: NOV 18, 2014 An alluring aroma is backed up by the hop-forward full bodied flavour. An excellent beer that is closer to an IPA than a Pale Ale (to my taste at least).

Clear copper body with a small white head. The aroma is mostly sweet, medium caramel malt, with some light bread notes and some floral and slightly citrusy hops. Pretty malty flavor with some more floral hops on the moderately bitter finish.

From 355 ml bottle. Pours a clear orange amber with a thin but lasting white head. Aromas of orange peel, cut grass, caramel and peaches. Taste is restrained sweet fruit at first before a firmer citrus zest and pine bitterness washes through. Quite a lingering finish with a bitter but fruity aftertaste. Nicely done.

Draft pour. Moderately strong citrus first taste with hop aftertaste. Bitterness of the hops lasts.

Poured clear medium amber with a disappearing frothy off white head. Aroma of moderately sweet citrus and soft malt. Medium body, quite creamy, flavour of orange and pine, quite a bitter finish.

Bottle. Pale amber with a large white head that lasts well. Aroma of orange, grapefruit, pine, peach, a little toast. Slight cat. Light bodied. Fruity sweet with oranges and peach, sharper citrus and some pine coming through as the fairly strong bitterness kicks in. Not much to the malt side of things after that toasty hint in the aroma which leaves the nice hops feeling too like dish soap.

Well-hopped, light lemony sourness, a good palate well in harmony with good carbonation make this a very fine beer overall. The label has a slight social-realistic effect, very nice.

Good looking ale, pours out clear golden with a high rocky head. Piney, citrus hoppy nose, sharp hops rule the taste. Crisp, and tangy. Bitter finish.
