COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The pure water we receive from the East Branch of the Brandywine Creek that begins its journey to us just under 14 miles from where we brew with it. We’ll be celebrating this water (insert your lite beer joke here) with our anniversary beer, Headwaters Pale Ale, due to be released February 15, 2011. Now, considering that beer is the product of four simple ingredients and the three other than water rely on water for their existence, we’ve had a fair amount of latitude in paying homage to water in our beer. So, we’ve played all of our cards deftly, bringing the hops, malt and yeast in harmony, with our great local water as the conductor in Headwaters Pale Ale.

Bottle from BottleDog London and drunk at home. Clear amber lasting thin ivory coloured head. It’s a good looking beer. Some toffee some pepper on the aroma and some grapefruit. Fullish in mouth, caramel, tangerine and grapefruit on the finish. Bitterness is mostly peppery. It’s good. Easy drinking. Very lasting finish. Good APA. Very drinkable but with enough interest to make you think about it a bit more. Very peppery.

Bottle at home in NH, shared with Charlie. Pours a slightly hazy gold with a small, white head. Woody, toasty malt aroma, some light grain and earthy hops. Medium sweet flavor, biscuits, toast, slight floral hops. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Good balance in the finish, some dirt and woody bitterness lingers. Very good.

A: The pour is amber in color with a couple fingers of white head that leaves some mild lacing on the glass. S: A solid hoppy aroma right away. Juicy citrus with plenty of oranges and tangerines, perhaps some hints of grapefruit, too. A moderate amount of malt in there. Nicely balanced. T: The citrus hop flavors open things up quite pleasantly. Plenty of tangerine and mild grapefruit along with some hints of pine which provide a little bitterness. Balanced with sweetness of bready malts. M: Medium in body with a moderate level of carbonation. O: This is very much along the lines of how I like my pale ales. Nice hoppy character without being overly bitter or malty.
