COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The pure water we receive from the East Branch of the Brandywine Creek that begins its journey to us just under 14 miles from where we brew with it. We’ll be celebrating this water (insert your lite beer joke here) with our anniversary beer, Headwaters Pale Ale, due to be released February 15, 2011. Now, considering that beer is the product of four simple ingredients and the three other than water rely on water for their existence, we’ve had a fair amount of latitude in paying homage to water in our beer. So, we’ve played all of our cards deftly, bringing the hops, malt and yeast in harmony, with our great local water as the conductor in Headwaters Pale Ale.

Bottle @ home. Very clear, light orange appearance with a light brown head. Cat piss, floral, a touch piney hoppy aroma. Very toasty pale malty, organic, floral, a bit piney hoppy flavor. The litter box pale ale? Huh?

Very pale golden-straw colour. The aroma is very citrusy and orangey. A bit of light resin and a bit of light lemongrass and pepper as well. A little bit of zestiness and sweet citrus. Fairly assertive bitterness. A little bit of lemon peel and some white pepper. Well-balanced and quite tasty.

Bang-on APA style, good citrus bitterness. Golden, good head, good hop aromas. A bitterness in the 60 range, years ago what would be called by many an IPA. Above average mouthfeel, satisfying. A bit of a palate shredder in bitterness, so not for everybody. Very flavourful; very drinkable.

Yay! A new Victory beer! 12 ounce bottle from Whole Foods Market Charlottesville, VA. Pours a clear golden copper color with a medium sized bubbly tan head. Good head retention and decent lacing. Aroma of earthy and peppery hop notes, along with some floral and citrus notes as well, and faint caramel malts. The taste is pale biscuity malts, bitter herbal hop notes and a caramel finish. Medium bodied. Not my favorite Victory beer, but still solid.

355mL thanks to tastybeer. Please upload photos of actual bottles and not label artwork. The pour is a clear light amber with a rocky, off-white, fluffy head with pretty good retention and baby lace. Aroma is quickly fresh hoppy, grassy, thick malty, honey, florals. Overall very muted. Taste up front is nicely malt, doughy, rich, with honey and sweet rolls and then ends heavy on grassy hops and dry bitterness. Very simple, easy to enjoy, and relatively malt-forward.

draft. clear caramel colored body. somewhat sweaty nose of bread crust dark malts and buttered vegetable hops. sour and woody flavor with notes of moldy bread and soggy asparagus. unclean yeast and harsh malt edges late - unpleasant throughout.

On tap. Pours with a clear, pale yellow body with a white head. Aromas are grassy, grainy, lime and citrus. Flavors are grainy, cornbread and light citrus. Grain is the dominating flavor, not hops (and this is fresh). Lively and dry.

My Bottom Line:
A spicy hop flash rides this Pale Ale’s clear pale malts as bright citrus fruit slowly morph into herbal bitterness.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam lays atop the amber-tinged golden.
-Malts also develop mild honey and caramel notes.
-The mouthfeel is appropriately lean and the flavor profile is balanced.
-This is a Pale Ale that knows how to share loads of character without turning the volume up near maximum levels.

Bottle.

12 oz. bottle from Capone’s. Pours dark straw with 3-finger white head. Nose is pale malt, spicy yeasty notes, and funky resiny hops. Tastes hoppy, resiny, with an overabundance of IBUs relative to the malt. Like a souped up Hop Devil with less malt and more hops. Stays resiny throughout.

2011-04-17. Crisp orange body, modest white head. 3+ Modest hoppy aroma highlighted by mild but pleasant citrus character. Flavour is similar, with pleasant citrusy hops, very light resin character and modest bitterness throughout. Average palate. Not as assertive as my preference but this is quite pleasant and eminently drinkable. Bottle shared by Radek
