COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The pure water we receive from the East Branch of the Brandywine Creek that begins its journey to us just under 14 miles from where we brew with it. We’ll be celebrating this water (insert your lite beer joke here) with our anniversary beer, Headwaters Pale Ale, due to be released February 15, 2011. Now, considering that beer is the product of four simple ingredients and the three other than water rely on water for their existence, we’ve had a fair amount of latitude in paying homage to water in our beer. So, we’ve played all of our cards deftly, bringing the hops, malt and yeast in harmony, with our great local water as the conductor in Headwaters Pale Ale.

Pours golden amber with a creamy head. Fairly nice hop aroma, but not strong. Crisp and dry. Grapefruity notes. Floral hops. Slight malt finish. Medium mouthfeel with medium carbonation. A light and refreshing beer. Maybe too light for a pale ale; this is more reminiscent of a pilsner. However, it’s and enjoyable beer.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, best before 6/23/2013. Pours lightly hazy golden amber color with a 2 finger dense and fluffy cream colored head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice soapy rings of lacing cling down the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big grapefruit, orange zest, lemon zest, orange rind, floral, grass, light pine, bread, light caramel, and floral earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance of hop notes with a moderate malt balance. Taste of grapefruit, orange zest, lemon zest, floral, grass, bread, light caramel, light pine, and floral earthiness. Light floral bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus, citrus zest, floral, grass, bread, light caramel, and floral earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and good complexity of hop flavors; with a moderate malt balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a lightly creamy, lightly sticky, and smooth mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with hardly any warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice pale ale. Good balance and complexity of flavors; and very smooth to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Bottle Poured into glass. Deep golden Amber pour with a thin off white head. Aroma is grassy, earthy, wheat, some sweetness. Taste is savory with bitter hops, a little rubber band, wheaty body. High carbonation with an earthy finish/slight aftertaste.

On tap at Joe Canals West Deptford.
Appearance: There’s a slight haze in the light amber body with a creamy white head that has average retention.
Aroma: Caramel malts and hints of orange battle for the nose with a hint of spice. Pretty mild.
Taste: Light floral bitterness is accompanied by a light malt base with a hint of spice. Not big on this.
Palate: Light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall: I do not enjoy this very much. The flavor profile simply doesn’t appeal to me.

So good and refreshing. Pour is like a blood orange with a foamy white head. Smell of fruity hops and pine. Taste is awesome with grapefruit and pineapple notes with fresh pine and small bitterness. Mouth feel is about perfect. Good stuff.

Recently I’ve been searching high and low for an awesome pale ale but living in seattle everything is a damn 7% IPA and a quality pale ale has been shunned. Now low abv "session" IPA’s are all the rage but they are usually just bitter hop water. What happened to a normal goddamn pale ale? Finally! Not surprised that this comes from one of my favorite east coast breweries. Handedly hopped with flowery and earthy hops. Light bodied but a enough malt to perfectly balance it. I’ve been moving away from IPA’s because they have become too syrupy and heavy and then bittered to hell. This beer is well crafted and proves you can get a flavorful hoppy beer without all the alcohol and malt. Please tell me this will be an all-year offering.

The first time I tried this beer, I was not real excited. It was a very pale and DIFFERENT type of hops flavor. Several months later I was in the mode for something different and bought a whole case. Again, the first one was such a different twist on a hoppy beer, I thought it was so-so. But I have come to LOVE this beer! It has a sharp hops bite that is super crisp and not too much alcohol. It is tremendously more hoppy than Victory Summer Love, yet without the heavy richness of Victory Hop Devil or Yakima Glory. What a fantastically clean, dry and flavorful summertime beer.

Hazy gold. Citrus and spice and everything nice. Finish is surprisingly bitter, given the lighter initial feel.

12 oz bottle from Liquor Kabinet. Light amber golden appearance with an off-white head and patchy lacing. Citrus, fresh, herbal, hoppy and earthy aroma. Crisp and clean feel with a light to medium body. Spicy, leafy hop flavor with bitterness and light malts. The finish is dry, bitter and lingering. Pretty solid pale.
