COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The pure water we receive from the East Branch of the Brandywine Creek that begins its journey to us just under 14 miles from where we brew with it. We’ll be celebrating this water (insert your lite beer joke here) with our anniversary beer, Headwaters Pale Ale, due to be released February 15, 2011. Now, considering that beer is the product of four simple ingredients and the three other than water rely on water for their existence, we’ve had a fair amount of latitude in paying homage to water in our beer. So, we’ve played all of our cards deftly, bringing the hops, malt and yeast in harmony, with our great local water as the conductor in Headwaters Pale Ale.

(12oz bottle, BB Jul 8 2011, courtesy of Dixonian) Pours clear golden body with a medium odd-white head. Aroma of nuts, grass, light pine, florals, and weed. Flavor of dank, grass, grain, restrained citrus, florals, and earthiness with a dry, bitter finish.

12oz bottle in a shaker. Pours amber with an off-white head. Aroma of floral hops and light malts. Flavor about the same. Pretty hoppy for a pale ale. Average texture. A nice brew, but nothing special.

Bottle from Sam’s. Pours clear amber with minimal head. Nose of bitter hops and a solid malt profile showing some biscuit. A bit more bitter than expected on the taste, and not in a way that I really dig. Not very impressed.

Tangerine, dank stank, grapefruit, and slight mango aromas filled my nostrils. A soapy white head settled atop the orange gold ale. Sweetness followed by medium bitterness rolled across my tongue. Soft creaminess followed by a rather thin finish, this was pleasant but somewhere between Moon Man and Michelob Pale Ale.

Aroma: round fruity funky hop character. Slight citrus behind. Hoppy but not my favourite set up here.
Appearance: clear amber-gold with medium top. Beige white in colour. Sparse lace. 3+
Palate / Taste: Medium bodied. Crisp flavor with lemon like accents, citrus like hops. Refreshing and drinkable. Pleasant sweet notes at finish. Easy going.

Bottled. Poured clear lighter orange with a short, dense cap of white head. The aroma picked up sweet, lightly toasty pale and bready malts with lemon and floral accents.. a touch of honeyed backing.. well-balanced and pleasant. The flavor found honey and bready malts at the core, a touch tangy along with grassy bitterness on the edges.. more bitter, picking up some lemon on the finish. Lighter-bodied and a tad sharp on the palate.. too many sugars to be really refreshing.. a decent drinker overall.

Bottle courtesy of jcb890. Served in a Hill Farmstead wine glass. Pour yields a copper-orange beer with a thin white head that doesn’t stick around too long and really doesn’t leave much lacing behind. The nose brings forward some citrus and floral notes. They are certainly faint, but come out more as the beer warms up and are quite noticeable with a good, hard sniff. Taste is a bit on the light side, though enjoyable. There’s a generic "hop character" but nothing really pops out. Feel is slightly bitter with good carbonation on a medium body. Quite drinkable. Not a huge standout, but with this ABV and overall profile, I could see myself coming back for more of this. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 03-15-2011
