COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The pure water we receive from the East Branch of the Brandywine Creek that begins its journey to us just under 14 miles from where we brew with it. We’ll be celebrating this water (insert your lite beer joke here) with our anniversary beer, Headwaters Pale Ale, due to be released February 15, 2011. Now, considering that beer is the product of four simple ingredients and the three other than water rely on water for their existence, we’ve had a fair amount of latitude in paying homage to water in our beer. So, we’ve played all of our cards deftly, bringing the hops, malt and yeast in harmony, with our great local water as the conductor in Headwaters Pale Ale.

12 oz bottle. Clear orange with a pillowy white head. Nose is orange, sage, funky sweet pastry dough and cooked cabbage. Medium body with moderate carb. Taste is apricot and bitter citrus with a weird, bready toffee note.

On tap at Proof, advertised as Victory 15th anniversary, pour pale later, a little tan lacing, weak hoppiness, very dry, grassy, a bit gritty, not great, but spectacular for an anniversary. Boring.

12oz bottle, enjoy by 4/29/12. Pours a clear yellow gold with a smallish rocky white head that retains well and laces the glass some.

The aroma is sweet bready malts and piney hops.

The flavor is sweet, slightly vegetal, malts and a little fruit with a good sized resiny grassy hop finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with some prickly carbonation.

Overall, a decent pale ale.

keeping in mind im not a hophead, or else this would have scored higher. aside from that, this is a solid pale ale. this should be a regular from Victory. it could be the gold standard of what a quality pale ale should be.

Crisp, clear copper coloured body with a very thin (one centimetre tall) off-white head. Aroma of fresh resinous and grapefruit hops with some good malt and caramel in the nose. A bit of a dry and light scent comes as well. Light-bodied; Sharp hoppy flavour at first then dies down almost immediately with a little malt, a touch of earth and some mild caramel sweetness. Aftertaste is pretty simple and only showing malt and hops, in that order - no sweetness nothing special at all, really. Overall, a pretty underwhelming beer in my opinion. Okay, but not really worth going out of your way for. I sampled this 12 ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in Chantilly, Virginia on 27-March-2011 sampled at home on the Eastern Shore of Virginia on 01-April-2011.

Orange and lime peel nose, moderate strength, with grassy hints. Clear amber, thin head. Watery and thin, no malt presence. Hop flavor is there but less strong than the aroma. Disappointing for such a reputable brewery.
