The pure water we receive from the East Branch of the Brandywine Creek that begins its journey to us just under 14 miles from where we brew with it. We’ll be celebrating this water (insert your lite beer joke here) with our anniversary beer, Headwaters Pale Ale, due to be released February 15, 2011. Now, considering that beer is the product of four simple ingredients and the three other than water rely on water for their existence, we’ve had a fair amount of latitude in paying homage to water in our beer. So, we’ve played all of our cards deftly, bringing the hops, malt and yeast in harmony, with our great local water as the conductor in Headwaters Pale Ale.

Victory Headwaters Pale ale is a light copper pour which is almost clear. The head is mostly tiny bubbles which is disappearing faster than I can type this. nose is faintly of pine needles. Taste is at first a bit restrained but broadens greatly in the midswallow. Full Pine needle hops with just a touch of malt. Not overpowering, but a very nice full flavor. Body is just slightly fizzy. Finish is just a bit warming with good bitters. A nice beer, less strong than some, but very solid with good flavor.

Orange clear pour slight white head. Aroma of tangerine citrus piney hops. Tastes mostly of fresh green hops with a significant wheaty malty background with moderate hop bitterness. Buttery mouthfeel.

12oz bottle poured into a Lager glass at 43°. Color is bright gold with active carbonation and a small tight head. Aroma is hoppy giving notes of pine and citrus. It has a medium body with a crisp mouth feel. Flavor comes in slightly sweet with corn and citrus then ends with a mild bitterness. After taste is a lingering bitterness, a bit of the citrus and a note of pine. Overall its a nice Pale, not a stand out, just an easy drinking brew.
