COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The radiant energy of the sun gives life to all that we enjoy. Flowing field of barley for malting, surging vines of ripening hops and even pure, clean water owe their vitality to the sun. Just as we do. So in crafting this unique, hazy orange-hued ale, we poured in nature’s great gifts of German malts and European hops to feed the dynamic yeast that we imported from Belgium. Here in the quiet tanks of Victory our yeast brought vitality to this Belgian style farmhouse ale. That energy has created impressions that range from lemon peel to black pepper, though such spices are not added. Great with a wide array of foods, count on the bright soul of Helios Ale to bring life to all of your meals!

Bomber bought @ Systembolaget. Pours slightly hazy yellow with a frothy white head that doesn’t leave much trace on the glass while dissiapting. Smell is tiny sour and slightly phenolic with crackers, lime juice, hay, dry soil, marzipan covered baked pears, lemon zest, pepper corns and hints of fried banana with vanilla ice cream. Taste is tiny sweet, very tiny sour and phenolic with crackers, orange zest, lemon zest, pear skins, hay, dry soil, white pepper corns, banana bread and hints of marzipan. Mouthfeel is soft, tiny dry, tiny spicy astringent and light top medium bodied. Finish is tiny sweet, slightly bitter and phenolic with crackers, orange zest, rubber, marzipan, pear skins, hay, dry soil and pepper corns. Refreshing but too phenolic for me...

650ml brown bottle, poured into a Tulip glass. Appearance is hazy golden colored with a medium sized white head that reduced quickly. Aroma of barnyard, green apples, herbs and lemon zest. Flavours of lemon zest, herbs, spices and orange peels. Taste is light sweet and medium bitter. Palate is medium bodied, soft texture and average carbonation. Overall a good interesting beer, aroma has a quite prominent barnyard funk to it.

Bottle. Gold with a fluffy white head. Aroma is a horrendous combo of garbage and bile. Seriously disgusting. Taste adds some citrus and clove but that combo from the aroma still lingers. Crisp clean mouthfeel. I love me some Victory but this beer is a total disaster.

650ml bottle. Pours a cloudy deep straw, with a white head. Spicy, quite funky aroma, yeast, citrus peel, hay, earth, Brett (?), slightly horsey and phenolic, caramel. Dry, medium body and bitterness, balanced CO2. Spicy, funky taste, citrus, lightly phenolic, lightly hoppy, malt, caramel, earth, herbs, grapefruit zest. Quite complex, very well balanced, maybe the ABV is unnecessarily high for this style. (2014-06-07)

A very nice saison. Lemony with an earthy finish. Light funk and highly carbonated. Tried at the Federal House with Jess in 2014.

Yeasty, funk at it’s best, this is a true Belgian interpretation, ABV well integrated, grass, straw and hay. Golden colour, medium white head, lacing.medium bite, mid-sweet, yeasty and funky, slightly spicy, complex and rewarding. Medium body, lively carbonation, bitter and yeasty finish. Again a very competent Belgian interpretation from this brewery.

Pours a lightly hazed gold color with a white head. I get almost a wheat beer taste up front more than a saison. There is a slight amount if Saison yeast but they are overshadowed juicy fruit gum flavor.

Transferred from BA review on 3-7-12 - Poured from bomber into pint glass Appearance – Pours a hazy orange-golden color with a huge white head. The head it thick and persistent and lasts for some time. It eventually fades giving way to some quite nice lacing on the side of the glass. Smell – A stronger lemon aroma is the first to met the nose and is mixed some sweeter tropical fruit aromas. Strong and very nice. A bready aroma comes on the scene mixed with a nice yeast cake smell. A very nice black pepper smell is there as well, mixing with the sour and sweet aromas quite nicely. Taste – A sour lemony wheat flavor is the first to meet the tongue. The sourness gives way, a bit, to some more malty flavors toward the middle of the taste. The peppery flavor present in the aroma develops more toward the end. It leaves a rather sour yet peppery aftertaste on the tongue. While not awful it is actually slightly off putting. Mouthfeel – The mouthfeel is a little bit creamier and chewier then the average beer, which actually complement the initial taste flavors very well. The higher level of carbonation is quite appropriate for the style of beer and creates a rather satisfying mouthfeel. Overall – For the most part it is really quite a fantastic brew with many great characteristics. Unfortunately, the after taste that it leaves in the mouth, really takes away from the overall enjoyableness of drinking the brew.
