3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 jonjon (22) - Wilmington, Delaware, USA - SEP 25, 2006
From a 750ml at the victory brewery.
Cloudy golden yellow with tiny champagne like bubbles running up the side of the snifter. Nice head, didn’t notice the lacing. Smells of bread. Loved the taste of the yeast in this one, and the tiny bubbles. Tasted almost like a wheat beer, with an alcohol kick.

Bottle @ Kookfest. Spicy yeast and pale malty flavours with some fruit. Easily drinkable but not a huge amount of character.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 JB175 (1665) - Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 19, 2006
UPDATED: APR 21, 2007 2004 Bottle (I think). Light golden, cloudy color with yeast remnants. Light, sweet, doughy aroma. Taste is light upfront, with sweet fruit and malt flavor. Sharpness may have faded a bit with age. Clean, malty finish thats reminiscent of a dubbel, but lighter and a bit maltier. This is my first Saison, so its a bit hard to rate. It doesn’t stand up to a good dub/trip, but very dry and unique.

Bottle at Kookfest 2006. Pale gold with some sediment in suspension. Carbonated bubbly head. Some banana esters, bit farty maybe. Some lemony fruit in mouth. OK, but I expected better.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 kook (2033) - Perth, Western Australia, AUSTRALIA - SEP 6, 2006
Bottle (Chris_o Gathering06): Golden, very high carb with estery peppers in the nose. Vanilla there too. More like a strong wheat than a saison though, too clean in flavour.

Kook’s Farewell Gathering. Earthy Delight is the sub-title. Hmmm. Spicy ale with some tart notes. Rumbling, grating freshness. Grey, obscured flavours meshing into rancid butter in the finish. Not very earthy, and not a delight. Drinkable, but not a beer I’d welcome again.

pours a hazy light orange with a big but quickly dissipating off white head. good carbonation. Aroma is of sweet apples, tangy citrus, orange peel, and spicy. Taste is earthy yeast, tangy citrus (orange peel), spicy, with a dry finish. could use a bit more funkiness, but pretty good overall.

Poured a hazy pale yellow with a small white head. Yeasty and fruity aroma with notes of lemon and orange flesh. Some phenolic spice. The flavor was fruity, yeasty, and spinced with a lively mouthfeel.
