COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The radiant energy of the sun gives life to all that we enjoy. Flowing field of barley for malting, surging vines of ripening hops and even pure, clean water owe their vitality to the sun. Just as we do. So in crafting this unique, hazy orange-hued ale, we poured in nature’s great gifts of German malts and European hops to feed the dynamic yeast that we imported from Belgium. Here in the quiet tanks of Victory our yeast brought vitality to this Belgian style farmhouse ale. That energy has created impressions that range from lemon peel to black pepper, though such spices are not added. Great with a wide array of foods, count on the bright soul of Helios Ale to bring life to all of your meals!

750mL Bottle. Soft apple aroma, with some yeast, bread and alcohol. Pours a cloudy yellow orange, with a white rim. A waffling alcoholic, phenol and light rubber character. Wet and sugary. Edges on cloying. Some higher alcohols confuse me and the sugars get coarse and lost amongst a swampy spice run. Very mediocre for the style. I see this as flabby, overly rich and not holding the best aspects of this style. Low on the hops.

Just an all around pleasantly sweet Saison, portraying notes of honey, grass trimmings, edamame, farmhouse yeast, spent grain, candied lemon, straw and noble hops. Perfect summer beer. I’d buy more if it didn’t rain so much, as it’s kind of a bummer drink when it’s damp outside. New England is uneven like that.

Bottle Enjoy by Dec 26 2013. Pours golden with a thick white head and a big bretty nose. Flavor is some sweet malts with a a little spice and a good bit of horsey funk. Not what is advertised, but is very tasty at this point. Only other bottle markings are 36 12 1644. Purchased at Friar Tuck in Springfield, IL

22 oz bottle into a Duvel tulip. A: Pours a hazy straw color. The head is perhaps creamier than I’m used to in the style; nonetheless it’s a beautiful three finger white shade. It retains fairly well and leaves moderate lacing on the glass. S: Once the brew opens up after sitting for a spell, notes of coriander, black pepper, and fresh cut grass appear across a neutral malt canvas. Subtly funky, as well. Really pleasant and well executed, but fairly standard for the style. T: Spice esters (such as coriander, black pepper, and pine) are the first thing I note on the palate, before the aforementioned subtle funk builds on the midtaste. Mild yet defined malt sweetness, lemon notes, and touches of hop earthiness finish this one off. The spiced qualities return on the aftertaste. I like the depth this provides in general; I wasn’t sure what to think of the flavor profile initially, but it really grows on me after a while. M: I find little to complain about the general feel; it’s appropriately crisp and light, drying on the finish. It really comes across as being ’refreshing’, too, without coming off overly carbonated. O: This is the Hop Stoopid of saisons - why do I say that? Because it’s a high-quality, no frills interpretation of the style fantastically priced by bomber standards. That, and Victory could really stand to put this in 6 packs. Still a really good saison regardless.

Bottle @ Kraddel’s TdG 2013 tasting, Antwerpen. Pours a slightly hazy light orange body with a medium white head. Nose is floral grassy hops, pale malts and hints of saison yeast and herbs. Taste is yeasty tones, pale malts, hints of straw and hay. Medium body and carbonation. A pretty decent and fresh-tasting saison, though not terribly exciting otherwise. Still solid.

Bottle. Pours light golden with a small white head. Aroma is fruity, a touch of spice and a large grain and honey character. Flavor has more of the honey and sweet fruit, light belgian spice, not particularly dry, Finishing still bready and sweet with a lingering spice. Medium body and crisp carbonation. Refreshing

22 ounce bottle. Pours a hazy copper with a white head of foam. Aroma is grassy, peppery, sweet herbal tea. Sort of bretty. Taste is peppery and sweet with just a touch of bitterness in the finish. Nice stuff.

Pours a slightly hazy but brilliant gold with a huge fluffy white head that recedes to clumps across the surface. Some visible yeast sediment that collects at the bottom of the bottle/glass as it sits. Aroma is citrus, Belgian yeast, barn, and hay. Taste is sweet malts, tart citrus, and a dry, hoppy finish. Light mouthfeel with some carbonation. Very refreshing. This is a pretty darn good refreshing beer for the price (about $4 for a bomber).
