UPDATED: JAN 16, 2014 Bottle into snifter glass, cloudy golden color with white head. Aroma of funky floral/fruity hops and slight pine note too. Taste is much more welcoming, very tropical fruit leaning (mango, pineapple) and some honey. Medium body, low carbonation, soft, cream, slick with smooth hoppy finish. Iíll admit the aroma was somewhat offputting with the funk but this IIPA more then makes up for it in taste, palate and finish. Great stuff.

The color of the beer was golden, and the head formation was very foamy, and large. The aroma was a combination of citric (tangerine, mandarin orange) and tropical (pineapple, melon) fruits. The taste was a lot more citric, with a lemon flavor up front, followed closely by mandarin orange. The bitterness was low, and only showed up late in the finish. The aftertaste was long drawn out, and spicy. The beer felt quite boozy and warm. This was a little odd to me.

Appearance: clear straw with one finger of eggshell head, minimal retention, moderate clingy lacing. (4/5) Aroma: tropical fruit, floral, citrus, pale malt, pine. (7/10) Taste: moderate sweet, moderate-high bitter. (7/10) Palate: medium body, moderate carbonation, off-dry mildly warming finish. (3/5) The hops donít seem to be as pungent as I wouldíve expected - certainly thereís not a lot of the pungent sharp citrus the label promises. That might also be a function of the high-ish ABV, which otherwise really only manifests as a gentle warming. Itís more or less hop-forward, though, and at least itís not one of those heavily caramel malt DIPAs. (14/20)

Pour is a clear golden with a small white head. Aroma is a pungent hop with some melon fruit and berry. Flavor is hoppy and it is a decent hop profile but i was expecting more of a aggressive hop. Finish is more of a dull neutral malt with very little hop bite or biterness. Even though the best by date is not until May 2016 I think this beer needs to be drank super fresh because the hops have already faded. Days after bottling this is probably great but this is drinking more like a pale ale than a IIPA now.

Bottle. Golden color with a finger of off white head, decent bits of lacing. The aroma is excellent; bright citrus and tropical fruit. Some pine and as it warms the malt base becomes noticeable. Taste is intense hop bitters, hop octane. Lightly sweet. Very good.

I enjoy a featured hop display any night of the week. While this bottle wasn't incredible it was certainly something that I could do quite a few six packs of without getting bored of it. It'll easily be one of the beers in every pick six. The color and aroma did not give much to the senses but the overall presentation and flavor was very well delivered. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 ounce bottle. Bright yellow gold color. Large foamy white head. Nice lace. Wonderful fragrant hop nose. Notes of tangerine, pineapple and lime. Flavor mirrors the aroma. Add pink peppercorns, grapefruit, toasted malt and boozy notes. Finishes with a jolt of juicy sweet citrus hoppiness. Quite good.

Iím a huge fan of Dirtwolf and this is even better. Which is saying a lot because Dirtwolf is phenomenal. The aroma is grapefruit and pineapple and mango. Super tropical and so fresh smelling. Itís like the ripest fruit were squeezed into the glass. Taste is like fresh grapefruit pineapple juice. Itís so good. Bitter, hoppy and delicious. This is a great Imperial ipa super recommended. Cheers!
