3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
31st January 2014
Tap East. Keg. Light haze on this amber beer, small off white head. Smooth and silky palate, slightly viscous. Fine carbonation. Smooth and slightly sweet malt, touch of caramel. Big piney hops with lesser tropical fruits and bitter aniseed. Floral bitterness. Finishes smooth and semi dry with a moderate peel bitter linger. Solid but compared to some of the UK brewed DIPAs of late, the US ain’t always top dog anymore.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap @ The Cellar (Whittier). I was honestly surprised that this is as pale as it is. Nice. Smells like pineapple juice and grapefruit. Some peach, light mango, and maybe some sweet malt. A touch of booze on the finish. Flavor is big on the pineapple as well. A little on the sweet side, but it works okay. Decent bitterness of citrus and some subtle pine. Not bad for a bottled, nationwide, high boost IPA.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Poured clear amber color with an average to large frothy white head that was mostly lasting with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy complex citrus hop aroma. Medium to full body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy bitter flavor with a medium to heavy bitter finish of moderate to long duration. This is a good beer that exceeded my expectations.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 oz. bottle, pours a hazy blonde with a medium white head. Nose brings out wonderful floral hops upfront, with some pine and dry biscuity malt. Flavour matches accordingly, with loads of piney and floral hops out front - and only a light dry zesty crisp biscuity malt backing. Exactly my kind of IIPA: dry, piney and crisp. Wonderful stuff.
