Commercial Description:
Horace ‘Hop’ Wallop headed West a broken man. For it was a certain Miss LuLubelle Lager that had left him, thirsting for more. Drawn by wild tales of the riches of the gold mines, Hop pressed on westward. His last nickel spent on a prospecting pan, Hop's hunger and thirst got the best of him. Two fistfuls o' barley and three of some wild and wayward hops tossed in the pan with some clear water was to be his meal. But sleep overcame him and he woke to a bubbling, cacophonous concoction. Overjoyed with the beautiful ale that he had made, Hop realized the secret of the 'green gold' he had discovered in those fresh hops. Celebrated far and wide, Hop Wallop lives on in this vivid ale with his words, "hoppiness is happiness." As our annual homage to the fresh hop harvest, Hop Wallop is a fragrant experience that delights the tastebuds. Pure gold of color, this ale offers its heady bounty of hops to the adventurous of taste. Bold, bracing and surprisingly refreshing for a strong (8.5% a.b.v.) ale, Hop Wallop lives up to its name and legacy.

Pours a hazy peach with a very small white head. Aroma holds lots of nectarine, peach, clementine, evergreen, and a touch of floral hops as well. Flavor is rife with floral, pine, citrus, and a touch of earthy hop as well. Some rosemary and tarragon sneaks in as well. Not much malt character, but this is a good double IPA. Palate isn’t all that impressive, but doesn’t detract from the beer; a sessionable brew overall. Another solid effort from Victory.

Hazy peach pour with some hop residuals and yeast. A thin white head leaves a light ring. Aroma holds a juicy citrus pine and mandarin orange with slight resin and caramel malt. Flavor is bursting with nectar juices and citrus with a strong backbone of spruce and toasty sweet malt. Palate is medium bodied with low effervescence and a dryish resinous finish. Very sessionable for the style- gotta be careful with these.

Bottle from Food World, Kalamazoo. Amber colour, off-white head. Aroma of sweet hops and some malts. Flavour has sweet hops, sweet caramel malts. Slightly dry and bitter finish. Well drinkable, but on the sweet side.

This is my first review, and the reason is because I tasted Victory Hop Wallop. I have been a fan of Hop Devil for a long time, and friends told me that Wallop is similar, but stronger. I figured I would give it a go, and it was not a bad choice. Aroma is sensational, sweeter sweeter and mildly spicier than you would expect from an 8.5% beer. Wonderful darker color. Taste was exceptional, better than I could have imagined. Matched aroma nearly exactly. There was no charcoal aftertaste left on the palate as I sometimes get with Hop Devil. Easily may claim the spot as my favorite beer after I try some more.

Bottle in a mixed 6. Pours a lot lighter and hazier gold than I was expecting. Nose is fantastic - dank/sweet hops, grapefruit and lemon. Flavor is the nose, the lemon going a little herbal, and touches of toffee that balance really well. Finishes crisp, clean, no oiliness. Highly drinkable for the style. Could easily demolish several of these with a pizza.

This seasonale ale is certainly named appropriately. 12oz bottle poured into a tulip glass produced a huge off-white head with beautiful gold translucent body. Slightly sweet but pine, spruce, and cypress notes are dominant. Hoppy ales are not my favorite but this one was exceptionally tasty. The lingering bitterness on my tongue was very pleasant. A very bold brew that I enjoyed very much. Good job, Victory!

Cask (gravity) @ GBBF 09, Great British Beer Festival, Earls Court Exhibition Centre, London, England.
Clear medium orange color with a small to average, fizzy, virtually none lacing, fully diminishing, white to off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, moderate to heavy hoppy, pine. spruce, orange - citrus. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and peel bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is flat. [20090804]
