3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: NOV 1, 2008 Crystal Clear gold with a nice lasting head. Good solid lacing. Smell was not what I expected, was that of old hops and malt with some fresh hops coming through deeper. Taste is exclusively hops at first with malt coming through later, unlike some I2PAs that demonstrate tastes of malt throughout. This isnít to say that itís unbalanced, just leaves something to be desired? Substantial mouthfeel. Not the smoothest of beers, but not too bad. A decent I2PA, though Iím not sure why itís in 6packs, but whatever.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
had it on tap at DBA, beautifully clear and golden, witha great white head. Instant and strong aroma of hops. The depth of the hop flavor was more interesting than most "overhopped" styles Ive had. Really enjoyable, really well balanced. Could definately have a couple in a sitting.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Comparing this brew out of the bottle and on tap, not much difference and I actually prefer the bottled version due to a bigger hop presence. Pours a golden transparent yellow with a nice white head. Tons of citrus hops dominate the aroma on this brew, very clean and crisp. This brew has a quick buttery smooth malt start that quickly fades into a nice hopped/bitter/grapefruit finish. Very well balanced, smooth and crisp, with a dry finish.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Clear golden appearance with nice lacing. Hops are clearly the star of the show here, if anyone has any doubts, from start to finish. There was a hint of malts early on in the aroma, but after that, well--use all the adjectives you have for heavily hopped, domestic ales: pine, resinous, grapefruit, lemon, etc. Taste was a little sweeter than the Hop Devil.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
A hazy orange beer with an orange head. The aroma is very hoppy, but also sweet. The flavor is very sweet with notes of fresh hops, like sticking your head into a hop bush, this leads up to a rather bitter end almost like sucking on a lemon.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured great. Growing white fluffy, thick head. Clear amber color with tiny cascading bubbles rising to the top.Hoppy, piney aroma, but not as strond as I expected. A spicy, sweet malt flavor with tons of hop aftertaste. This is great, but could be better balanced.

UPDATED: MAR 22, 2006 3/22/06 Re-rate: Draught Bryant Lake Bowl, MN. Reminds me of Mendocino Whitehawk IPA. Sweet, somewhat metallic. Not sure I love it. 4.5 for original rating may be high. Clear dark gold. Small, slightly off-white head. nice lace. Fresh, fruity aroma, although not very hoppy. Had it after Surly Furious and this was more refined. 11/24/04: Fresh, hoppy aroma. Some pine. Clear as a bell body. Slow visible carbonation. Very nice lace. Gold in color. White head, small. Very rich, robust. Hoppy, piney. Wonderful. This is very close to my ideal, perfect beer. Tastes somewhat like Mojo IPA, but this is better. Ar 8, Ap 4, Fl 9, Pal 5, Ov 19.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A rather pleasant IPA. Sweet fragrant hops that have a touch of a kick but are not so overpowering that they ruin the beer. It should be noted that I normally hate IPAís but did enjoy this one.

UPDATED: NOV 25, 2004 Victory rocks my socks!! They CAN NOT make a bad beer if they tried.first off, this is my first tasting of an imperial IPA. I bought a case and it ran me 31 bucks and some change. This is very nice tasting...although i donít agree with ratebeer on this one. this tastes more like an imperial pils to me. i have never had an imperial pils, but i have had prima pils, and this hop wallop tastes like a kicked up version of the prima with more sweet malt. maybe itís the hops. tastes like the same hops from the prima. amazingly, no one here seems to share the same opinion. if you like the prima and the hop devil,(which i know you do...duh!)...you will definately like this. the hops are definately there, but not overwhelming. there is enough sweet malt to balance it out. this is sweet and hoppy and very smooth and refreshing for 8.5 abv..which is hidden quite well.be careful and remember hoppiness is happiness! cheers!

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: FEB 15, 2005 The coloring is a very clear orange and red. A thin head fades to a long lasting scum on top. Aroma is citrus, pine and bread. There is obviously a decent amount of malt that gives it a nice oatmeal type smell in the background. The taste is in your face with citrus and bread crust. It also has a nice spicy black pepper finish that lingers. The body is not thick and it is a little thin considering the alcohol and flavor levels. Very nicely made. While very hoppy, there are enough malts to keep this one reasonably balanced. Thanks hey_kevin for this great beer.
