3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: AUG 10, 2003 Thick hoppy musky psychedelic aromas come out of the glass.
A dark amber ipa ale hue, pleasing to look at at sunset in a narrow pilsner type glass for careful study.
This is a staple Victory beer I think.
One that I will get more of later.
This and the All-Malt Lager are my 2 favorite Vic. beers outside of the seasonal and powerful storm king stout which shares with hop devil this thick dense hop fragrance .
Thanks Victory, may all the coors light drinking birdbrain conformist consumers of the world drink this one.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Thin head but nice lacing. Decent carbonation. Color of medium/dark orange/red. Aroma of plentiful hops and mandarin oranges. Flavor is very hoppy with some malt overtones. Finish is hoppy (as you would expect) with a nice bitterness also. A top quality IPA that is very well balanced in flavor. The hops are very prominent but do not overwealm the flavor like some IPA's. Highly recommend to anyone who likes IPA's. You won't be dissapointed.

3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
A good IPA but I was not blown away like I was with the Horizontal. Teh beer pours a nice amber/red hue and the awoma is definately citrus and pine. The beer is balanced which is typically commendable, but I was looking for a scary hopped brewin this one. I was not dissatisfied, just looking for something more pronounced.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Victory hit the nail on the head with this beer. Pours out a reddish color with a creamy white head. Upon opening the bottle, the
hops aroma almost knocked me over. It literally hits you upside the head with hops, hops, and more hops. It is a fine example
of an American IPA, I recommend searching out this beer & buying a case or two, just in case you have a hard time finding it,
like I did. This beer should be in the beer hall of fame, if there was such a place. It deserves the praise it gets.. It has a sweet
malty background, and a crisp, dry finish to it. A class act, if ever there was one. I highly recommend trying this beer if you

4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: MAY 21, 2003 Poured out of bottle, bought at Hopleaf bar in Chicago, 5/3/03. Tight head dissipates to a thin whisp relatively quickly. Pours to a slightly murky amber hue; very nice to look at. Subtle aroma, barely there, and then the extremely bitter hops hit you with a zing almost immediately upon sipping. Medium-to-full body, silky smooth with strong flavor that opens up a bit on the aftertaste; hint of a grapefruit flavor, very long hoppy finish. Probably the hoppiest beer I've tried. Warm feeling, but only a slight taste of alcohol. Very nice alcohol masking considering the ABV % (6.7).

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Sweet citrus/pine hop aroma backed by some caramel, yellow cake. Smells similar to a light barley wine. Sweet with a moderate bitter finish. Smooth.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: APR 29, 2012 Draft and cask and bottle, Iíve had it all ... Perfect amber color with a shiny dark orange sheen and a head that will last 30 minutes. Bready nose with a hop flower essence. Drinks with an intensely floral hop blast to the palate. May be a tad bit too sharp and cheesy for some, but I find this to be an excellent beer. Itís easily in my wifeís top 5 of all time, and I may have the hop devil tattooed to my calf I love it so much. (On cask, the beer was cloudier and smoother).

This is simply put by saying "well balance and enjoyable" Tasty brew that is so nice and smooth with a nice hop finish and almost a creamy carbonation to it.
