Bold, spicy and menacingly delicious, this American-hopped India Pale Ale offers an aromatic punch and then follows through with a lasting, full-bodied finish.

One of the best ales I have ever tried. Piles the hops up adds a hint of caramel sweetness. An amazing flavour finished off with a smooth aftertaste. If only all ales were this good...

UPDATED: FEB 11, 2011 Pours out a medium shade of amber with a nice head. As soon as you pour it, the hop aroma smacks you right in the face and further tempts you to drink it. As the name would suggest, it is very hoppy with a bit of spicyness. This is not a bitter IPA at all, very well balanced

Bottle pours amber with a white dishwater head.   Carbonation is very light, lacing is decent.   Sweet pine, hops, light caramel, and caraway seed on the nose.   Flavor is semi-sweet, hoppy indeed, smooth, finishes crisp.   Medium bodied, definately an easy drinking IPA.   Quite good.

I live about 30 minutes from Victory's brewpub, so I enjoy Victory beers as often as I can find time. The HopDevil is one of my top 5 IPAs of all time. It is well-balanced, very hoppy without being overpoweringly hoppy, and has a nice malt flavor base as well. As far as I'm concerned, the bottled HopDevil is very close to the draught version, which proves the consistency of the style in my mind. A must have, blockbister IPA.

Nice deep copper color. I'm a bit perplexed by the color notes of some of the previous raters (crimson? dark amber? appearance of brandy?) Mine is definitely not that dark. A nice bold copper color. Good carbonation with a dense creamy head. Aroma of hops is strong, mostly Cascade. There is a bit of malt in the nose fighting to get through all the hops. Taste is very hoppy. And I do mean hop taste and not bitterness, although there is plenty of that as well. Malt shows up towards the end, but the hops win out overall. One of the better IPA's I've had over the years. Not over the top, but very well crafted.

UPDATED: APR 17, 2004 Clear, bold, bright crimson coloring, nice, though thin, collar of bubbly beige foam. Beautifully hoppy aroma, piney, fruity, richly redolent with tones of cherries, berries, melons, peach, tangerine, some citrus and more galore. Now, to taste: great, buzzing hops board the palate, but kept in check with toasty, rounded malt, hints of cinnamon and spices, if I'm not dreaming, great bready feel, adds up to good balance in such a hoppy ale. Body is medium, finish is just as long, and full of fruitiness, thoroughly tasty. A great session IPA, mellow but significantly flavorsome.

I found this a bit overrated also. It was built up so much before I finally got to try it. I don't think this much of a factor though... Pours a dark amber, very nice head that leaves a thin frothy lace down the glass. Smells of hop, citrus and spice. Taste up front was a prominet malt, thins in the middle a bit, and a bit salty on the back of the tongue, spices along the sides. There is though a generous hop finish, that came a little later than expected with this type of brew. I found the mouthfeel a bit thin and unsatisfying. I just can't rave about this brew or truly find fault. In the light of my eastcoast friends hailing this as there answer to a Ruination. I only chuckle, for this is a completely different brew. HopDevil satisfies though, with its clever spicy infusion. Though much like a 12 round heavyweight bout that you paid $49.95 for, it only lasts one round.

Appearance of a brandy, with a thick syrup consistency. Lacking the aroma expected of a hoppy beer. Full-bodied, yet not as harsh or a finish as some of its cousins, yet all of the body is there. Consumed alongside Dogfish Head 60 and 90, and Stone IPA this was the champion.
