4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Gustav1996 (331) - Birmingham, Alabama, USA - JAN 25, 2011
12 oz bottle. Poured copper with some haze, medium size head. Aroma and taste are what I would expect in an IPA: Pine, citrus, malt backbone, some caramel. Medium-ish body, good depth, great balance, good bitter finish. Overall a excellent beer - very well made.

12 oz. bottle in a snifter. Again, not an IPA drinker... Nice golden amber pour with minimal head. Strong spicy aroma. Tastes the same. Strong initial bite of hops. Almost overwhelming. Once the hops die down a little, the flavors meld and finishes nicely. Wouldn’t drink every day, but wouldn’t mind sampling again occasionally.

Pour from the local pub. Nice ruby red color with an inch head and almost no lacing. Nice spicy hoppiness with some lingering In the finish. Can’t say I’m a big IPA fan but this is nicely balanced.

A: The pour is a clear amber color which is, sort of dark for an IPA, I must say. There’s a thin off-white head to go with it.
S: Certainly some hops on the nose. Much more toward the sweet, fruity side of things with notes of mango, tangerine, orange, and overripe pineapple. Some caramel maltiness is in there as well.
T: Surprisingly bitter for such a sweet nose. Quite a bit of pine with a bit of a citrus peel bitterness, too. Some lemon zest and maybe a little bit of soap? A touch of bread and slightly burnt toffee, as well.
M: The body is medium with a moderate level of carbonation.
D: Maybe not quite as good as I had remembered it being a couple years ago, but still a pretty good and readily available IPA from Victory.

Review from notes, sampled 3/12/2008
Pours a slightly cloudy deep copper color with a thin off white head that leaves some lace on the sides. Aroma hits you with hops; pine and grapefruit, but there’s also some malt in the background, a bit of caramel. Taste assaults the the taste buds with hops, much like the smell. Mouthfeel is a little thinner than I expected and is a bit dry in the finish, no lingering hops on the palette. Great brew, not as hoppy as some out there, but certainly very drinkable. I taste no alcohol and could easily drink to many of these.

Pours a thick golden brown, with a good thin head of light light brown. Aroma is hop hop hoppy. Flavor is smokey, like roasting. Bitter hoppy finish. What else would you expect?

12oz bottle in a tulip. Pours deep amber with a lacy, off-white head. Aroma a nice blend of caramel and slightly roasted malts with floral but almost like a spice to the hops. Flavor with a lot of light caramel malts and the undertones of the grapefruit and floral hops. A thicker, smoother texture than most IPAs. A good beer.
