Bold, spicy and menacingly delicious, this American-hopped India Pale Ale offers an aromatic punch and then follows through with a lasting, full-bodied finish.

UPDATED: FEB 14, 2004 Re-Rate:Glowing copper. Minimal but lasting milky, white head. Aromas of hops presence are instantaneous. Intense, spicy, piny, citric hops cloud the malt which is mainly caramel in aroma. Taste exremely refreshing and better balance than expected. So clean. Caramel covered hops on a piece of toast. For how good and delicate this is.It has to be one of the most consistent, well made, brews.

Dark robust IPA, malty, less hoppy than Stone Ruination IPA, but more balanced. I compared these two side by side in a dual tasting,Stone is much more bitter and hoppy, Victory more balanced, malty and smoother.I like the color of Hop Devil better, but Ruination’s aroma is almost overpowering, it wins here. The final result is a close one, a Photo finish and the winner is Victory Hop Devil By a Nose for being more balanced,Hop heads will still prefer Stone Ruination. Thanks igenousboy, only Dreadnaught is better, extremely recommended !

UPDATED: MAR 3, 2003 ReRate-Cask-RAF-2/28/03-Definately bumping the numbers up on this one. This is one of the only Ipa's out there that i have ever had that is probably the best marriage between a british IPA and an American version. This one has it all-huge malt with huge hops! definately a pleasure to experience on cask at RAF! top notch IPA-i sampled this along with the hop ottin from anderson valley and this was much more balanced. Very reminisent to the 3f's alpha king due to a good malt presence on the middle-cant wait to have another one of these

UPDATED: OCT 6, 2004 (re-rate) A beautiful deep amber, clear. Decent head. Caramelly malt aroma, moderate resiny hops noticed. Almost thick bodied, very creamy palate for an IPA, spicy hops sitting in caramel and oranges, not too sweet. Nice long bitter finish. Man, compared to alesmith, the hops are moderate at best here. Not making it any better but you can see the emphasis was on body, balance and flavor here and more hop orientated in alesmith and other big IPA's. Equally impressive, just have different ways of getting there IMHO. Awesome IPA.

UPDATED: JUL 19, 2003 Rerate....I think this is the beer that all american IPAs should aspire to be. Deep golden amber color, with a sustaining white head. Aroma is very hoppy, yet suspended by a strong maltiness. Mild citric grapefruit and heavy herbal aromas mingling with appley fruitiness and sweet pale maltiness. Flavor is absolutely perect. Bold fearless hopping, although not in the least bit too agressive, with a perfect malt sweetness to balance it out. Light apple esters, citrus, mild grassy outdoorsiness. I can't believe I don't buy this beer all the time. It's incredible.

I had this on tap last year and the hops were too much. Had a bottle this time and the hops, although still the dominating factor, seemed tamer. Very floral, to the point of squashing anything else. Overall not too bad though.

Pours up with a nice pale head over a dark honey body. The aroma is slightly floral, but predominately pine, and slightly sweet. The palate is your typical IPA. The flavor was quite interesting, since sweet malts came out much more than is typical in IPAs, providing a nice counter-balance to the hops. Overall, this is right up there with the best of the IPAs.

Floral aroma, dark-colored like an amber, and a well balanced malt taste. Hops are noticable, but not too strong, and the beer is reminiscent of Red Seal. Delicious!

The hops are there, but they don’t hurt you. Not overpowering with a good long finish.
