Bold, spicy and menacingly delicious, this American-hopped India Pale Ale offers an aromatic punch and then follows through with a lasting, full-bodied finish.

Just a brilliant brew. Pours a dark orange amber with a thin white head. Aroma is caramel hop, pine and mild malt. Taste is a blast of caramel hop, very smooth mouthfeel. Really no bitterness or at least not what you would expect. Dry mouthfeel in the aftertaste. I’d trade the Prima Pils for this one to be sold in the LCBO. Great beer.

[bottle] Spicy caramel malt aroma with a blast of pine/citrus hops and a touch of cardboard. Clear bronze under an off-white cover that becomes a ring and wisps. Nicely balanced flavour of caramel, biscuit, and spicy bread crust malt with not harsh pine and citrus hops--like a stronger Red Seal. Bitterness is medium and appropriate for caramel sweetness. Medium body, moderate carbonation, nutty bitter finish.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a nice red orange color with a one finger off white head. Average lacing on the glass. Aroma of lots of hops with some honey, fruit and malts. Taste is of a nice sharp spicy hop flavor, with lingering bitterness on the finish. Nice level of carbonation in this, not too overpowering, giving the hops prominence in flavor. Finish is nice and smooth how I like it. Quite enjoyable for me because I love hops.

Aroma: A tantalizing bouquet of hop aroma starting with the juicy citrus character and moving towards the pine resign almost fennel smell. The sweet malt almost blends into a bubble gum smell if it weren’t so spicy. Appearance: This ale has an unexpected darkness to it. Let’s not mistake, it is still a very nice hue of deep amber almost red, but IPA’s I’m used to are lighter in complexion. The head was robust and rocky upon pouring and quickly faded into a solid but low, lacy, tarp of foam. Taste/Palate: Big bitter hops smash my mouth wide open with the first sip! I shouldn’t even say sip, the hops were there before I even knew I had sipped! With all those hops I am certainly glad the malt body was rich enough to balance or I feel my face might have imploded! The mouth feel is very rich and full with an omnipresent bread-like sweetness but the hops destroy that feeling in the finish. With the dry finish came a slight bit of refreshment before continuing the onslaught of hoppy goodness. Overall: I have never had a bad beer from Victory Brewing Co. This ale has impressed me as much as all the rest. If you’re looking for what in my opinion is the best example of the East Coast style of IPA, this is it.

Wow, this is a hoppy brew, and I love it. Hops are just going crazy all over the place here, definately a mouth full of them each sip. And if you love hops, like I do, than this is a brew for you. color is simmering with waht lies beneath, a delicate yet demanding hop parade out of this world. Drink it.

12 ounce bottle in pint glass. Bright copper with dense head and a little lace. Piney resiny hop aroma with a hint of citrus. Toffee bready cereal maltiness with some nuts and medium assertive earthy bitter finish. Pretty good all around. Not the fashionable super citrus dry IPA (which I happen to prefer) but still very good.

UPDATED: JUN 4, 2010 bottle to snifter. pretty dark gold/amberish, clear, with a nice head that dissipates, this smells so, so good: flowery, caramel, smokey, coffee, with a little grass and dirt thrown in... and yeah, a little of that salty smell of soysauce too. fortunately the taste doesn’t capitulate to the last smell. tastes really hoppy, but not in an overwhelming or disgusting way, small banana finish. appropriate amount of carbonation and a nice body.
