chokmah33 (88), Bremerton, Washington, USA May 4, 2008 Grape, cantolope, pastry sweet malts. Floral + citrus hops.
Hop bite up front, extra bitter (almost medicinal) grassy-citrus hops mid with the malt kickin in for balance. Butterscotch + yeast finish.
Oily texture, malty smooth. Palate is typical of a IPA.
FlssmrBrewAlum (168), South Chicago Suburbs, Illinois, USA Jul 25, 2008 12 oz bottle from Charleston’s (New Lenox, IL). Pours a very nice darker coppery hazed hue with a decent head that dissipates at a medium pace. Aromas are lighter than expected, but still consisting of sweet malts and hoppy citrusy bite. Initial is good, largely malt up front leading way to a nicely hopped bitter finish. Not balanced as well as I hoped in my opinion. I love this beer’s assertive malt profile (who wouldnt?), but I feel like the hops are drowned out a bit. Hops are largely grapefruit and floral. Finishes bitter and very nice. Good, but not as good as advertised. Still in the top echelon though. Fruitfly (2), , Pennsylvania, USA does not count Jul 23, 2008 Bottle. Aroma is very rich with floral/citrus hops and malt, follows with fresh grapefruit and a heavy earthiness. The unique color is an orangish, redish, amber; thick but transparent. Medium to small bead. Very minimal head. Medium body and bitterness, oily and creamy. Soft to average carbonation. Bitter and long finish. Very nicely balanced. The 6.7% ABV allows you to enjoy more of this beverage than the double IPAs that I usually seek for so much flavour. Russo (434), Campinas, Brazil Jul 22, 2008 Bottle@MARTY’S. Dark Amber color with a nice white head. Aroma is malty and sweet hoppy. Flavor is spicy and citrus. a finish bitter. Amazing.
Swolf3 (13), Elkton, Maryland, USA Jul 22, 2008 Poured an amber color with medium head. Aroma is very hoppy, fruity, and a hint of citrus. Taste is a strong hop taste but smooth to drink. great brew. timmydent (14), fishers, Indiana, USA Jul 21, 2008 12 oz bottle. Just recently introduced to Indiana. Funny that they talk about the legend of the hop devil on the bottle, because this beer has become somewhat legendary amongst beer geeks in the state. Come on hop devil, lets go rounds! Aroma; citrus / hoppy / some sweetness. Appearance; Dark amber and murky. Flavor; Hop bite really stands out, but a nice malty background. Long resiny finish with a pretty full mouth feel. Great beer. Hop Devil 1, Timmydent 0.
