Bold, spicy and menacingly delicious, this American-hopped India Pale Ale offers an aromatic punch and then follows through with a lasting, full-bodied finish.

12 oz. bottle served in a pilsner glass. Best by March 13, 2012. A: Pours a solid amber color one fluffy off white head forming on the pour. The head sticks around for quite some time and leaves nice sticky webbings of lace. S: The smell is very caramel malt based with some pine and light citrus fruits popping up in there. T: The taste is dominated by a sweet bready and toffee malt with some minimal piney notes as well light citrus mingling in there. There is a touch of some floral nights that do brighten it up a bit, but still not enough. M: The mouthfeel is solid, a tad on the lighter side. The body has tons of lively carbonation to it. The taste has some decent linger to it, but it’s nothing special. O: Typical malt forward East Coast IPA. A solid beer, but pretty average for the style. Nothing really makes it stand apart from the solid malt base and light hop variations. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 01-18-2012

I first had this standard eleven years ago. It’s no longer my favorite IPA, but it still is a solid selection. Perhaps it’s just nostalgia. The nose imparts a faint hop, earthy scent. The appearance is brown/amber that looks like a Fest beer. The taste is malty and pine resin; not very citrusy. It does provide a spicy bite on the finish after the initial malt flavor. Personally, I love it more on a nitro pour (I had it at Victory and the Standard Tap in Philly). Cheers!

A fine exercise in balance. Full maltiness (but not too sweet) to balance the bitter. Not especially aromatic but very smooth, especially for a 6.7% IPA. Slight hint of liquorice up front with a lingering bitterness in the finish.
