UPDATED: JUL 4, 2012 An amazing take on an IPA. I smell citrus and spicy floral hops with the sweet malt in the background. I also get that unique potent hop grapefruit smell that you can only get from whole cone hop beers. The taste is spicy hops up front ending with the malt sweetness that gives off some cinnamon brown sugar malt tastes that mixes in with the citrus bitter grapefruit dry hop at the end. The whole flower hops are a unique twist to this IPA and you can tell the difference between this and others of the style. To compare it to another beer I’d say its close to how Sierra Nevada’s Celebration Ale tastes. Excellent beer.

I first had this standard eleven years ago. It’s no longer my favorite IPA, but it still is a solid selection. Perhaps it’s just nostalgia. The nose imparts a faint hop, earthy scent. The appearance is brown/amber that looks like a Fest beer. The taste is malty and pine resin; not very citrusy. It does provide a spicy bite on the finish after the initial malt flavor. Personally, I love it more on a nitro pour (I had it at Victory and the Standard Tap in Philly). Cheers!

A fine exercise in balance. Full maltiness (but not too sweet) to balance the bitter. Not especially aromatic but very smooth, especially for a 6.7% IPA. Slight hint of liquorice up front with a lingering bitterness in the finish.
