From a 22 oz bottle shared at home. Pours a deep amber with a beige head. Candied citrus nose. Flavors of vanilla, oak, caramel and a hint of bourbon. Warm boozy finish.

Pour is dark ruby red with a right tan head. The nose has a deep malt complexity of rich chocolate and caramel, nice bourbon presence, strong but not overwhelming. Dark fruits behind with a light vanilla wood note. Taste has more bourbon, light vanilla and oak with the chocolate richness coming through. A touch green in back with dark chewy fruits through the Finish and a bit of alcohol around the edges. Body is thick and well carbonated, smooth and creamy and soft on the palate.

750 ml bottle shared with a bunch of us by a stranger at DLD 2013- thanks, kind stranger! He was accidentally calling it Dark Horizon, but I knew what he meant. Pours a hazy chestnut brown with a finger of beige head. Caramel, vanilla, bourbon, toasted brown sugar, nuts, and raisins. Maybe some sweet dates, too. Medium-full bodied, with a sweet, malty mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Really tasty bourbon barrel barley wine.

25.4 oz bottle. Auburn brown with thin beige frosting. Nose is caramel, oak, bourbon, grass and raisin. Medium body with a tingle and a lot of heat, but drinks smoother. I usually like my Old Ho with 2 to 4 years on it and i’m guessing it will be the same with this one. Bourbon and grassy hops still too dominant with a solid malt base that should shine in the future.

Bomber. Pours amber brown with thin cream head. Aroma is bourbon, oak, caramel, and leather. Flavor is the same plus some vanilla. Extremely delicious BA barleywine.

Bottle, 03/30/2013, mahogany pour, ruby highlights, with dense medium foamy head, retention that won’t stop and nice lacing. Aroma is piney hops, malty caramel toffee and dark bread, fruity vanilla bourbon. Taste is fruity, toffee and light roast malts, bitter piney hops and bourbon. Full bodied. Nice, enjoyable.

Pours deep amber into a tulip. Off-white head recedes to hug rim. Oak, vanilla and bourbon aromas. Thick with hot caramel and vanilla upfront turning to oaky resin in the lasting finish.
