4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Aroma is strong vanilla and really nice and inviting. Appearance is dark amber. Pours with quickly dissipating head with little lacing. Taste is vanilla and bourbon. Palate is like typical strong ale... not really full and sticky but ok. Overall i can recommend.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
750ml bottle split with jortiz82 and one of our mutual friends. Poured a nice medium brown head, with a light off-white tan head. Aroma compared to it’s base beer was a lot more mellowed, barley wine still in there, but barrel and light woody vanilla has taken over. Alcohol is very well masked in this one, mellowed quite a bit. Woody, sweet caramel notes. Enjoyable.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Corked & Caged 750 ml Bottle. Dark ruby/amber colored in appearance with a little bit of tan head. Mostly caramel malt, oak and vanilla in the aroma. The flavor blends toffee, butterscotch and black cherry upfront along with some coconut, brown sugar, date and orange rind toward the end. Also some bourbon and vanilla around the edges. The body is a tad syrupy with soft carbonation and more dark sugars and oak in the finish. While not quite as balanced as the base beer, it still gets the job done as far as BA Barley Wines are concerned.

2.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 8/20
Pretty deep amber. 2 finger dense white head that isn’t fading. Malty toffee aroma with a good blast of hops. Taste is a bit odd. Opens with lots of astringent alcohol but finishes sweet and malty with a lot of barrel.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured hazy red-amber with a 2-color bone-colored head. Caramel-sweet aroma with notes of vanilla and wood. Body is full, but not as syrupy as most other barleywines. Light, boozy astringency to the finish. Sweet malt flavor with caramelly bourbon notes and some woody vanilla at the back.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Caramel, alcohol, vanilla, some phenolic notes on the nose. Pours fairly clear and brown color; inactive in the glass. More phenols on the palate, long, dusty, band-aid, caramel, dulce du leche, maple taffy. Not bad, but not reminiscent of bourbon to any great degree. I prefer the Old Horizontal to this.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Clean amber pour with little head. Oak and booze on the nose. Vanilla, coconut, oak, and finishes bourbon. The oak adds a layer to the Old Horizontal that is well done.
