bierkoning (5985), La Tropica, Netherlands Jun 28, 2008 Bottle from SoLan, thanks! 11% on the label. Orange dark brown color. Malt, plums, blackberries and a hint of oak in the aroma. Sweet, syrupy, malty flavor with plums, peppermint, oak and earthy hops. Blackcurrant, vanilla. Slightly alcoholic, but still well balanced. ketchepillar (475), Viña del Mar, Chile Jun 27, 2008 Sugary caramel and toffee. Nice hops reminiscent of Bigfoot. Very rich. Palate is smooth, slightly sticky, but somehow slightly watery. I’m not sure how it works but somehow they balance thick and sticky with watery to make both appear. Finishes dry but lots of candy sweetness. Naka (524), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 24, 2008 Pours a deep copper color with a red hint. Has a small beige head on it that lingers for a few minutes, but is gone shortly. A touch of fruity banana in the aroma, with a good bit of floral hops. Brown sugar and raisins. Still smells a little bit hot. Some time would probably do it well. The flavor is a creamy roasted caramel with some sweet toffee and a little fruit. Definitely has an alcohol presence, but not that overpowering for 10%. A slight hop bitterness that is kind of surprising but balances out the intense sweetness nicely. The hop character is almost a peach cotton candy. The body is excellent with a very thin carbonation, but a palate like half and half. Leaves a slight bitterness and warming alcohol on the tongue. dchmela (1406), Orlando, Florida, USA Jun 14, 2008 07 12 oz bottle courtesy sleepylopes. Dark brown reddish pour with a thick tan head. Malty caramel aroma with slightly fruity hops. Thick creamy body. Malty creamy taste with an explosive bitter hop bite. Leaves a malty bitter aftertaste. Very tasty, bu would be nice with a little aging. MaltOMeal (642), Land of Sugar, Texas, USA Jun 14, 2008 12oz bottle. Pours a dark amber color with essentially no head. Nose is of sweet caramel malt with some alcohol. Taste is also the caramel malt, yet with some hint of peach. Mouthfeel is medium and creamy with a little alcohol present. This one has aged approx six months as the alcohol was too strong when it was fresh. Liked it a lot better with a little aging. BuckeyeSammy (454), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Jun 11, 2008 Darrrk amber color, minimal head. Malt, caramel nose. Palate is a bit syrupy, not overdone (due to the crisp carbonation on the front end- Makes for an interesting mouth-feel) Carmel, dark fruits, hops, spice notes, molasses back end. Good beer, let it settle for two minutes before drinking. Alcohol well hidden for a pretty high gravity beer. travita (1851), Frisco, Texas, USA Jun 10, 2008 Red to amber in color. Hazy with a big beige head to start. Smell is sweet, caramel, toffee, molasses, and alcohol. Taste is the same. Hops in there as well. Fulller bodied sort of sticky. hombrepalo (726), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jun 10, 2008 12 oz bottle. Damn good barleywine. I’d buy it again. Can taste the alcohol on the palate, although not overly so. Aroma is rich. Little to no lacing. has a very full bodied flavor, but it is relatively light on the tongue. Good flavor profile overall.
