GranvilleTim (465), Granville, Illinois, USA Sep 6, 2009 Ruby red/dark amber pour with a beige head. Aroma is nice-caramel malt, sweet sugary aroma, fruity. Nice malt taste, sweetness, fruity. A little heat/alcohol at the end. Nice lacing on the glass. mspindler (301), Alta Loma, California, USA Sep 6, 2009 Bottle. Pours a cloudy reddish copper with a medium sized frothy tan head. Aroma is caramel, pine, citrus, and some alcohol and it’s all sugary. Flavor has some caramel, honey, citrus, some fruity hints, and a medium bitterness that creates a very nice balance. Full bodied with a generous amount of carbonation. dagimp (104), Philly, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 2, 2009 From a bottle that’s about 8mo old. Poured into a snifter with about an inch of thick white head. Head disappeared quickly and left no lacing. Smells of alcohol and fruit. Mostly dark fruit like plums and apricots. Taste is slightly biting hops and alcohol with more dark fruit underneath. Alcohol isn’t by any means overpowering and adds a lot to the flavor. My mouth and lips feel sticky when drinking due to the sugar and all around richness of this beer. Very nice barleywine. The more I drink the more flavors come out and the more I enjoy it. Svesse (2596), Hässelby, Sweden Sep 2, 2009 (Bottle, Monk’s Café, Wallingatan, Stockholm) Reddish amber colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with notes of red berries, dried fruit and caramel. Vinous and sweet. Malty, fruity taste with caramel, dried fruit, blood orange, orange peel and a generous citrussy bitterness in the finish. Full body, sweet and warming. Very nice beer. guyinchicago (516), marengo, Illinois, USA Aug 30, 2009 Poured copper and hazy with big tan head from a very vigorous pour aromas of malts, hops, and pine, taste is pine hops up front with a sweet malt backbone I will be cellaring the rest and hope the hop flavors move well into the back ground ante (2904), Stockholm, Sweden Aug 28, 2009 Bottle at Monks café, Wallingatan, Stockholm. Pours out in a deep reddish amber colour with a small bubbly off-white head. Rich and really potent aroma of figs, plue plums, resin, dried apricots, flowers, brandy and peppery alcohol. Full-bodied with notes of flowers, blue plums, figs, oranges, black currant, grapefruit and alcohol. Long warming finish of sweet blue grapes, blue plums, raisins, garpefruit, mild resin and alcohol. Heck, quite a masterpiece, this! corby112 (671), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 25, 2009 Pours a dark copper/amber color with one finger, yellowish-beige foam head that lasts throughout, leaving chunky lacing all over the glass. Leather roasted malt aroma with a very nice citrus hop presence along with some lighter crisp fruit notes and sweet alcohol. Much hoppier than I expected(which was very pleasant) which compliments the leathery, roasted maltiness and sweet alcohol warmth very nicely.
quierocerveza (18), New Jersey, USA Aug 23, 2009 Nice warmer, lots of malt, caramelize brown sugar, presentable hops with the necessary ABV for a Barley wine
