Aroma of biscuit and sweet molasses. Taste includes hints of brown sugar, plum, and some citrus. Rather bitter finish, with plenty of malt to balance. The alcoholic warming is there, but is pretty smooth. A very good example of the style. mistersinalin (367), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA

The boozy taste was almost absent and the rest of the beer was rich and malty. A good one for winter. santos999 (318), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

Amazing bready aroma, with apple, nutty, spicy, and incredibly sweet brandy notes. Intensely bitter taste, balanced out by strong alcohol heat and sweet, sticky malts. Plums, dates, cherries, nuts, flowers, figs, berries, caramel, chocolate and more blend together wonderfully. A benchmark Barleywine for me. Ages like a beast, too. afireinside96 (819), Mountville, Pennsylvania, USA

I detect a spice / caramel aroma with a brown sugar taste. Easy to drink, very smooth, and the finish has a bitter edge to it. There is a good balance to this brew, I recommended this one. Probably my favorite Victory beer. Fruity, smooth, sweet but not as much as some barley wines. Overall a great find. I’ll have it again and again. pepsican (885), The Student Ghetto, Iowa, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 3, 2008 poured caramel with a thin off white head. Aroma of dried fruit and malt. Similar flavor, add candy sugar and a bit of hops in the mix. Kind of all over the place but decent. Got a lot better as it warmed up but the alcohol became a lot more noticeable GMCC2181 (855), Bear/Elkton, Delaware, USA

Aroma is spice, dried fruit, malt and a touch of hops. Initally the taste is to sweet... Still, you can taste the dried fruit. The taste becomes a little bit more mellow and hoppier as you get close to the end. Easy to drink even though it has a good syrup like texture to it. The alcohol is well hidden. Over all good beer!****UPDATE**** Recently had an bottle from 03, shared by bruce. It mellowed out a little but is still sweet.
