Victory Old Horizontal

Bottle, pours a clear ruby tinted dark amber with an ample yellowish tan head, minimal lacing. Aroma of plum, dark fruits and caramel. Not too strong on the nose, but subtle and interesting just the same. Flavor is malty and pleasing, with a bit of hoppiness and slight astringency; some alcohol warmth. A nice barleywine even young, and no doubt it ages well; recommended.

Yet again, thanks to boboski. I felt as if I needed to have my feet propped up in front of a roaring fire, whlst wearing my double billed tweed hat. What a great barely wine. I have grown tired of the hop bomb barleys. Aroma is malty, fat and rich. Flavor is warming and voluptuous. Amazing bottle.

One of my favorite barley wines! Very good beer to sit and relax with. I wish i was able to get my hands on an older one. I bet it mellowed out wonderfully.

Rated this one late. Recorded the numbers, but not much description. Looks like I liked it a lot.

bottled dec 06. Aroma of oranges and grapefruit. nice two finger head that subsides to a thick lace. soft mouthfeel. deep amber color. Very nice, mellow malt flavor with a very nice alcohol warmth. Overall, a great, great barleywine. Perfect to savor at the end of the night. I bet this is amazing aged for a few years

Bottled December 04. Malty aroma with hints of hops. Cloudy amber color with large pieces of sediment. Malty start with a slight hop bitterness finish. Strong alcohol burn. A little creamy palate.

Bottle. Aroma of caramel malt, alcohol, and some dark fruit. Initial flavor is of sweet malt, followed by some spice and alcohol, and finishes with grapefruit like bitterness. A little too peppery for my taste.

Red-amber color, small off-white head. Bready, hoppy and slightly fruity aroma. Full-bodied, bready, hoppy. Alcohol punch and sweet fruits (+grapefruit) in the aftertaste (together with hops). Nicely balanced, bitter but "not so hard to drink" barley wine.
