4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a slightly hazy caramel red with a fluffy off white head. Huuuuge hops on the nose, mostly ripe fruit and lots of citrus, a little sticky resinous pine, caramel and molasses, dates, dark cherry, and a hint of milk chocolate. Nice caramel and dark fruit sweetness up front on the taste, huge bitter hops, lots of citrus then into massive piney and floral hops, a little alcohol is noticable, somewhat sweet, and a little hot. This is a delicious barleywine, but its almost more like a huge DIPA at the moment. Iíd really like to set one down for a year or so and see how it settles down.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
22oz bottle, 2013 release. Shared with Annie and co. Mostly clear red orange color. Thin khaki head, leaves plenty of dots and short ropes of lace. Big body, kind of creamy and chewy, with a lightly dry finish. Lighter, smooth carbonation. Moderate sweet taste, good hop bitterness in the finish. Light alcohol warmth, but itís all appropriate and works well. Good caramel, lightly spicy malt profile. Some dark fruit, some tropical hop. Good light pepperiness. Light hints of darker malts, maybe a bit of chocolate / lightly toasty malts. A big, complex rich meaty flavor overall. Very impressive big barley wine. Well-integrated.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Older bottle tasted Oct 2013. Best by date is Nov 2014. Six years old? Seven?
Murky brown pour with an off white head into a tulip glass. Powerful, delicious aroma, oranges and brown sugar, aged hops and toffee and spice. Surprisingly bitter flavor given the aroma with not nearly as much sweetness as expected. This is nice, bracing -- may take a few sips to get used to. Grapefruit pith and bitter nutmeg and cinnamon stick and very chewy brown bread, burnt brown sugar. Wow, I canít get over how bitter this one remains after all this time, but itís almost in a good way that makes the beer very sip-able. Warming late is pretty much the only direct sign of the high alcohol content; the booziness is long gone. This is one Iíll enjoy quite a bit as I stretch it out over the coming hour.

Refrigerated 12 oz. brown bottle poured into a snifter. Pours clear crimson with small off-white head. Aroma is dark fruit with a hint of alcohol, medium/light body, and no carbonation. Taste is dark fruit and booze. Not too bad, but I am not fan of the booze.

Have you ever rip-started a lawn mower? I have. And Iíd equate that experience to drinking this beer. Full, IYF (if yoí face) assault on your senses. Oh, were you just saying you need to update your resume later? You also probably need to apply to a number of philanthropic jobs at some point in the next two days. I do too, I love dogs. BUT you cannot do that because the VICTORY brewing co. just took a major rain (shit) on your parade. Delicious light cinnamon and figs, old oak and dark as fuck berry fruits. Not so sweet, but then again that may be good so it woní t fuck your little sister. All in all, if this beer was a person, itíd be Dave Duchoveny because itís hot on the outside and just as good while itís in you. BUT....you wake up knowing you got worked.
