| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Feb 8, 2006 Frankly, I have tired of being a ratings whore...I’m tired of drinking middle of the road drek only because I need the rating to stay ahead of the notoriously devious Frankenkitty in our quest for 1000! So I went deep into my cellar and opened a 1 year old bottle of Old Horizontal, let it warm slightly, and sipped for an hour of pure unadulterated pleasure...
Syrupy texture, somewhat cloying and vinous...intensely sweet with dried fruits, caramel, toffee, weird spices, and roasted malt. Enormous grapefruit and pine resin hoppiness lingering in the finish...along with an ever so welcome alcohol signature, most notable in the peppery throat warming...bringing with it a welcome sense of contentment, inner peace, and unfeigned forgiveness...oh, and by the way...Frankenkitty, thou Spawn of Cthulhu, you shall never catch me...

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 10/20 | Feb 6, 2010 Too sweet - but tast. Like a darker, more caramelly iipa. Tastes like brown sugar super malt. Deep in there, something weird, though - vegetabley funkiness. Chalsk (63), North Caldwell, New Jersey, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Feb 6, 2010 Pours a copper-red haze with not much life. Thick head that breaks down to a medium head. Much lacing. Aroma of fruit and caramel, bit of pine. What a taste. A creamy mouthfeel, medium to full bodied. A sweeter beer, but well balanced with the bitter finish. This beer has more of an IPA feel to it than other barleywines I’ve had. Really goog beer. mar (2062), Dallas, Texas, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 5, 2010 Pours a light cranberry orange colour with a bubbly, off-white lingering head that slowly recedes into a soft halo around the rim of my glass (12oz. bottle): Aroma of candied fruits (Jolly Ranchers), grapefruit, and resinous hops. Flavors are robust and malty. Crystal malts, marachino (sp?) cherry, and a kick of spice. Fair alcohol presence coupled with a back of the throat warming sensation. Drinkability: Sweet malted and strong. Rebuy: Yes. #270 on 05022010, DG. Fratto (827), Arlington, Texas, USA

So I rated this one twice in the same night without realizing it, and wrote down the exact same numbers both times, so that’s pretty cool. The first time all I wrote was, "kick my fuckin SSS." The second time I actually rated it. Hazy reddish pour with a ton of headyness in the glass. Flavorful aroma with a rockin taste. The last sentence is awesome, "Slightly sweet flavorful sweetfukswwt sewer flVkr fukkk as dl ke." Apparently I liked it. :) thirdeye11 (979), Texas, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 31, 2010 ( 12oz bottle thanks to cavie) Pours clear deep rusty orange with nice creamy head and great lacing. Nose of chlorine, citrus hops. Taste of cream, light alcohol heat, fruits and bitter citrus oils. This beer will probably be fantastic with some age, but honestly the hops dominated this one. I think the one we had was 2-3 months old, but I’d love to try this at a year. Boliv (229), New York, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 31, 2010 Bottle. Pours hazy, deep ruby and copper, with a very thin tan head that dissipates quickly. Aromas of sweet citrus and resinous pine hops, plums, figs, brown sugar, English malt, and alcohol (and sour fruit as it warms). Taste is bitter hops, sweet brown sugar and dried fruit, with a sweet alcohol and slightly bitter hop finish. The aftertaste is malty, sweet, and tangy. Palate is rich, crisp, thick, oily, and warming; very pleasing. The 11% is dangerously well hidden. This is very good, and grows on me with each sip. Highly recommend.
