Tried a 2002 vintage alongside a 2003 one. Both were wonderful, although the 2002 benefitted from some aging. So well balanced, with a wonderful hop aroma and flavor. Probably as close to perfection as you will probably find in beer. obisbeer (558), Barcelona, Spain

Heavey flavor with sweetness that abounds and lingers on and on with a pleasant hop finish. Flavors of vanilla, cherry, toffee, carmel, malt and light piney hops. Wow always a favorite! maximusud (27), Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, USA

Smelled of nuts with hints of fruit, almost a tangy/spice smell. Taste was quite a pleasant surprise as it was not as sweet as I anticipated. The feel was balanced with a decisive punch of alcohol on the way down. An excellent beer that can be enjoyed more casually than many other specialty beers. fordest (1954), Santee/San Diego, California, USA

Brown pour with a head that foamed and left. Aromas of molassas, dark fruit, and other super rich maltinesses. Flavors were the same with a great balance in hops to finish it off. Alcohol was masked well. Delcious Stuff. Thanks SuIIy for this bottle. McGrupp612 (29), hamburg, Pennsylvania, USA

This holds up well for years. reddish copper pour with a small white head. Great lacing. Malty, fruity and juicy nose with wisper of hops. Everything is in harmony. Flavor is outstanding. Thick, warming and not too sweet. Lots of caramel. Maybe the best barley wine. lifeofravis (21), New Orleans, Louisiana, USA

Pretty close to perfect actually. great mix of sweet malt and hops. lingering finish. i’d been looking forward to this one and it did not dissapoint. Better deal than the expensive 22’s as well!"

Pours a very dark, opaque amber with a small beige head, more than you’d expect for this strong a beer. Smells of cinnamon, ginger, lemons, and that pre-rain smell. This is nice and hoppy, my type of beer. Offset well by sweet flavors of caramel, and also carries nice spiciness--like pumpkin pie--and citrus, very little alcohol taste. Finishes clean with just a touch of bitterness. Quite simply, awesome.
