Commercial Description:
Luxuriously rich in character, this warming winter ale delivers over 10% alcohol in an oh-so-seductive manner. Deliciously fruity flavors lie under a bracing hop nose.

12 oz bottle...Drink by Dec. 29, 2011 Probably would have been better with age...Auburn to maroon hue with tan creamy diminishing head, sweet plum and honey smell with hints of hops, taste a little hoppier than other other barleywines, initiial sweetness, dried candied fruit, sugary palate, slight leathery, smooth with a bit bitter aftertaste. Nice balance. The kind of quick drunk that gets you from the sugar. A diabetics nightmare. Several would probably lead to flush warm face and ultimately a headache, Strong and powerful...Victorious!!!

It poured a nice reddish amber color. The head was very light to nonexistent. The beer was very tasty for the ABV. It had a nice hop taste up front with sweety malty aftertaste. It was one of the best Barleywines I have tried.

Bottle from john_adam2002. Pours with a thin creamy head of fine bubbles blanketing the surface of dark amber beer. Great looking beer. Malty citrus aroma. Flavor starts off leaning towards a nice hoppy bitterness, but then leans towards malty sweetness as the beer warms up. Well and very drinkable, despite the 10.5%. Could do with a bit of aging, but very good as is! Mmmmm tasty.

So glad I picked this up last night. Pours a semi hazey copper colour with a small offwhite head that quickly dissipates. Zero lacing, but lots of bubbles. Aroma is noticeably pungent with choke hold on my nose. Slamma Jamma prunes, ginger and cherry cough syrup. A mouthfeel like a pillows insides. Fluffy, light and delightfully creamy. Taste has this chewiness to it with bubbles, caramel and some tart fruit. cranberry perhaps. Awesome!

Poured into the ol’ snifter. A finger and a half of french vanilla colored head slowly emerges upwards from a dark murky brown body. Head is quick to regress and leaves only a thin halo and little lacing. Sweet mellow fruit on the nose, maybe melon, fig, overripe plum. Molasses. New England maple syrup, toffee, sticky hops, maybe even pecan as far as flavor notes. You can’t taste the alcohol but you can feel it in your chest, an excellent winter beer. Thick syrupy body finishes surprisingly dry. Alcohol warmth is pleasant. Exemplary carbonation. A very drinkable 11% beer.

Bottle, pours a beautiful dark amber and mahogany with a small head. Aroma of vanilla, wood, esters, plum and moist soil. Palate is softly carbonated, and full-bodied flavor. Flavor is a delicious combination of dry chocolate, rich malt, hoppy fruit flavor, and hazelnut. This is extraordinary. Flavor is light/crisp enough to prevent being weighty, yet the flavor is so bold that Old Horizontal leaves a lasting impression. Finish lingers on a contemplative notes, with some back of the mouth dryness. Superb!

12oz bottle (07 version) pours medium brown with some red and orange with a sparse head. Big raisin, molasses, brown sugar and prunes. Slight dryness at the end, but ooooh so smooth. A bit of burn at the end. Brown sugar, caramel, slight coffee and candy sugars. Very nice.

A beautiful dark red-amber beer with a small tan head leaving a little lace. The aroma is a sweet caramel malt, strawberry and other fruit, with a bit of alcohol. The flavor is much the same, with some roast notes perhaps dark fruit, more alcohol heat. Some understated hop bitterness in the background. Ends with heat. Mouthfeel is deliciously chewy. A great BW.
