Commercial Description:
Luxuriously rich in character, this warming winter ale delivers over 10% alcohol in an oh-so-seductive manner. Deliciously fruity flavors lie under a bracing hop nose.

Listed as 11%. Served it a bit too cold (52* or so). Pours with a smallish, foamy, light brown head covering a hazy amber body. Head goes pretty quick. Some lacing, as well as alcohol legs left on the glass. Aroma has some unnatural element to it (either plastic or plywood), but following that there are currants, berries, toffee and maybe even coffee malts. First thing to notice upon drinking is how creamy-syrupy the mouthfeel is. Quite nice. Flavor has lots of alcohol, and then is quite a bit more malty towards the finish than other barley wines that I have been drinking recently. Taste is fruity up front, and there is a slight metallic note to it. Good, but not habit forming.

(Bottle). Intense sweet aroma of hops, citrus, alcohol. Dark reddish brown body, thin light tan head. Flavor is spicy and medium licorice sweet, also some fruits and definite alcohol. Pleasant enough to sip slowly over an evening, but one would need to be prepared for the intensity.

I had this at the Durham World Beer Festival. It was good... poured dark amber with a small head. Smelled of hops and tasted like malt with hops. I am not sure of the alcohol content but it had some kick to it. I would have it again.

Bottled. Light-brown diminishing head, little lace, some tears. Clear copper pour. Heavy, sweet malt aroma, resin notes, toffee, alcohol, raisins. Full, slightly sticky mouthfeel, pleasantly carbonated, hop bitter finish. Flavor was long, heavy, and malty. An example of an American Barley Wine lifted straight from the style guidelines themselves!

12 ounce bottle thanks to kegbear. Poured into a snifter with a frothy head. Very good malt aroma and with some nice hop smell. The taste is malty with a bit of dark caramel. This is probably the best barley wine Ive ever had. I would love to have more of this.

2002 bottle.
Pours a caramel color with no head. Smell is rich an strong caramel, but in that aged sort of way, that is unappealing to me. Taste is smooth caramel as is common in old beers. Low carbonation and almost flat. Not great, but I’m sure I’ll like it better once I rate one of my fresher bottles.
