3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 BucannonXC5 (247) - San Diego, California, USA - NOV 27, 2011
Poured from a tap into a pint glass at Vine Cottage in San Diego (La Mesa), Calif. Color was murky pale golden. Light head, maybe ¾ inches. Some lacing on the top that lasted throughout. Sporadic film on the sides.
Wasn’t too impressed with the smell. The first thing I thought was shoe polish. Had some light citrus and grassy notes, but nothing too inspiring.
Tasted kind of fruity up front. Lemon citrus hops came in right after, but grass tried to make its presence known. Little bitter on the finish.
Light body. Average carbonation. Refreshing and smooth.
An OK beer overall, but nothing I’d write home about. Maybe it was the setting, giving the other ratings, but I guess I’d have to give it another try.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 RichardW (861) - Carlisle, Cumbria, ENGLAND - NOV 26, 2011
Bottle, beersofeurope. Sweet malts and peppery hops beautifully combine to create an excellent pilsner. Sparkling pale yellow, with a clean white head, great mouthfeel, excellent carbonation , long spicy finish, with creaminess, yet some herbiness too.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 ALLOVATE (1535) - Butler, WA, AUSTRALIA - NOV 22, 2011
Not quite bright on the pour, it sits quietly with just a sprinkling of fine carbonation dancing in uniform streams up to a tight, compact white crest atop. The head lasts the distance, a fine lace left in its wake. The body a misted orange gold. Soft zest of lemon and lime comes through on the nose under some clean, dusty grain, chaff and toothpick, and bright Saaz hops, very nice. Saaz hop dominated palate. Rough and mostly dry in back, very peppery and herbaceous. It peaks on the swallow and drops off with great haste, a bitter edge that grips the mouth well. The body is light but I would call it anything but delicate. Its got a reserved citrus fruit sweetness that adds a degree of tang to it, the malt profile being dry, dusty and just a little gritty. Impeccably balanced with little inklings of nuances that keep it interesting. Lightly floral, raspy, piney, the carbonation just enough to give it bounce. I love this beer. It isn’t classic Pilsner but a modern twist of it that does stands alone. Wonderfully refreshing stuff!! (12Fl.Oz, Enjoy by: 21/11/11, Mane Liquor, Belmont)
3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 cakanator (440) - South Hadley, Massachusetts, USA - NOV 21, 2011
On tap @ Sierra, from notes. One of my favorite craft pilsners, pours a nice off golden hue, some depth, more than what u would get from most pils. Aromas are light and soft, some citrus and hops, bready and malty. Palate is very clean and for a pilsner throws more depth with a slightly bitter finish. Really well balanced.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 stouby (2725) - Holbæk, DENMARK - NOV 20, 2011
Bottle at home.
Almost clear, pale yellow with a white head. Aroma light to moderate malty (caramel), medium hoppy (floral). Flavor llight sweet, moderate bitter, clean and long lasting. Light to medium body. Very nice.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 laiti (1006) - Tampere, FINLAND - NOV 18, 2011
36 cl bottle @ home, EB 21.03.2012
Aroma has lots of fruity and grassy hops – I wouldn’t believe that this was bottom fermented. Also some wheat and hints of baking yeast. Flavour is hoppy and fruity with some grassy notes. Also some banana and grain. All the sweetish fruitiness present in aroma and flavour does not fit the other flavour palette perfectly. Did not pair well with muikkukukko, dark grain bread, peanuts or german beer cheese. Good, but definitely not a typical pils.
