COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle: Filtered.
Ingredients: 2 row German pale malt; Czech Saaz, German Northern Brewer hops.
Heaps o’ hops are hiding under the full, frothy head of this elegant Pils. All German malt subtleties linger beneath a long dry finish of this classy quencher. One of Michael Jackson’s 500 Classic Brews

I really like the way the hops are the focus of this, the malt and yeast support the flavors of the hops. I could drink these any time since the noble hop flavors are there and fresh with some nice herbal and floral elements. The finish is dry which keeps you coming back for more. Prima is a great example of an American Pilsner that pays tribute to German Pils yet puts their own stamp on it.

Slightly sweet, barnyard aroma. Pours a light amber with active carbonation but a rapidly dissipating head.First sips reveal an initial sweetness that rapidly is overtaken by the bitterness characteristic of the style. On the palate, the carbonation displays a refined liveliness. The finish is bitter but not long.

Aroma is light, dry, sweet malt, earthy hops, great for the style. Appearance is golden straw, white head, mostly clear. Taste is earthy hops, bitter, sweet malt, corn, wheat, like a pilsener. Mouthfeel is light to medium body, creamy, crisp carbonation, lots of corn in the aftertaste. Overall, this is decent.

2015 BJCP Category: 5D German Pils (thanks to Jim for this bottle!)

AROMA: Spicy, slightly piney hops. Lightly sweet malt character akin to crackers. 10/12

APPEARANCE: Darker gold color; clear and effervescent. Average, white, foamy head. Good retention and lacing. 3/3

FLAVOR: More bitter than most of the style. Strong spicy hop flavor with some piney/resiny character in the finish. Malt is light and blonde with some graham cracker taste in the background. 17/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium/light body; consistently crisp. Refreshing while in the mouth, but hops linger with a dry, starchy sensation. 4/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Rare to see an American brew this to-spec for the style. Would be better in cans rather than bottles. 8/10

TOTAL SCORE: 42/50
