COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Victory Brewing Company is known for melding traditional styles and unique concepts to produce the highest quality, full flavored beers. Red Thunder does just that. By aging their popular Baltic Thunder in once-used red wine barrels from Wente Vineyards, Victory Brewing Company created Red Thunder. The burnished cocoa creaminess of the Baltic-style porter is accented by the tannic dryness of the wood to produce a rich, fruity final product.

Deep brown color with a red tint. Stinks like beer when you open the bottle. Somewhat thin yet oily on the pour. Not much foam but holds a nice white film head. Aroma of roasted nuts, coffee and chocolate. Flavor is rich dark, malt, chocolate, and barley. Tasted like a red cocoa porter if there was such a thing. Nice change of pace.

Keg @ Mekong. Brown pour with a small head. The nose is dominated to a crazy level by the barrel aging. Huge red wine notes. Oak. mineral, red berry, moderate boozy. The taste is somewhat more even-handed. Chewy dark malts, caramel. Cocoa shake. Rich roast, burnt toast. Cocoa. Tannic woodiness. Medium body, fine carbonation. Overall, just too barrel heavy to be really enjoyable.

Lightish brown pour from a 750. Slight offwhite head with just a little bit of lacing. Red wine and dark malt in the nose. Taste is nice, though I wish this were a sour. Oak, red wine, roasted malt and some dark fruits in the taste.

Dark with slight red hue,low carbanation, short pour to a newcastle glass, Very oaky-malty sweet aroma, wine/woodytannins,lightly bourbon- tartness, probably some roast underneath, faint dark caramels. Taste is oaky, malty with sweetness tannic,,some mild tart bourbon tones, some hoppy bittersweetness with mild roasty/dark carmels underneath, dark berry. As nice as I would expect from Victory.

Bottle - 750mL corked and caged. Black pour with a short tan head. Aroma is slightly woody and burnt with wine notes, roasted malt, burnt caramel, smokiness and burnt earthiness. Strong red wine notes, plenty of earthiness and roasted malt, charred wood, dark chocolate, burnt coffee and soft cocoa notes. Body is medium with a soft, bubbly carbonation and dry finish. Ends with more charred wood, earthy notes, roasted malt, dark chocolate, red wine, dark fruits and burnt caramel.

Pours a dark amber with red highlights. The aroma is the weak link of this beer. A bit of roast malt and some caramel. The taste has some chocolate, vanilla, the wood and what I first thought was bourbon but I guess is the wine. Very dry for the style. Nice brew. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Honestly I wasnt expecting to like this that much. But damn it's tasty. Tastes of cherries, dark chocolate, vanilla, ice cream, raspberries, some aged wood in the background. Super good. Kudos, victory! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Growler from JC’s. Nose is boozy and the first thing I notice is the apparent bourbon barrel character, or apparently, wine barrels -- just not a rough vanilla/oak dump, more of a sultry caramel spirited. Fruity/berry (red grape, sure, and just beautiful cherry) with cocoa powder, chocolate, roast, mild woody goodness. All of these things intensified in the mouth - the barrel character is huge and domineering, but it’s an enjoyable one and . Very sweet with the added alcohols, some tar and ash in the back, dries out only barely, but strikes a highwire balance with alcohol and sugar. Pours deep brown-black with a rocky, lacing tan head. Creamy very light body with the lovely complexity, again, of a nice spirit.

Bottle poured dark brown with thin head and small bubbles. A floral aroma with vanilla and coconut. Flavors were coconut, hazelnut, onion, and caramel. Did not get the barrel or wine flavors that others are noting. Maybe need a second try as I was 10 beers into a tasting. Mouthfeel was nice with light body and a dry finish.

Pours a dark brown with red around the edges, and a fluffy light tan head. Lots of roasted malt and oak on the nose, burnt caramel, dark fruits like cherries and plums, light chocolate notes, and a touch of coffee. Dark coffee on the taste and an earthy and oaky taste, molasses, raisins, very light citrus note, cocoa, and a touch of dates. Very well done. I love what the barrels do for this beer.
