4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
some aged fruit notes in the nose. the room lighting is too dark to describe color. the flavor has some tartness, mild sour note, aged dark fruit. tangy vinous quality, the body... the flavor is saying light, but it actually has a medium mouthfeel. balanced with some malt. complex flavors are in balance -- nothing really overtakes the beer and drives it too hard in one direction.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Barcade, Brooklyn tap ($6): Pours dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is cocoa, wood, sugar, a hint of booze, and barely any roasted malts. Taste is malty, somewhat sweet, full of chocolate, woody, but not quite winy. Well-balanced enough for sure. A good beer overall, but far from exceptional and not weird enough for the genre bending methinks.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Deep brown with a moderate head. I like Baltic Porters but I think the wine barrel aging has thrown off the style. Chocolate malts are flavorful. Wine notes add a sherry and almost sour body. Finish is sweet. Middle of the road.

3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Deep brown-red with a small tan head.
Definite wine-barrel scents.
Taste is choloate, oak.....vinous.
Very good, though a little heavy handed on the alcohol presence.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Location/Date:Bottle spit with Dave on October 11th, 2013.
Appearance: Pours a black opaque with light white head..
Aroma: Aroma of chocolate and dark fruit.
Taste: Sweet - chocolate, hints of dark fruit, faint hop.
Palate:Medium body, sweet.
Summary: I really enjoyed this one. Porters, and especially baltic porters, tend to be under hyped. Really enjoyed this.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle to glass. Dark Brown black pour with a red tinge and a thin tan head. Nose is tobacco, oak, vanilla, some coffee that has been tamed by the wine barrel. Unique aroma. Taste is definitely heavy on the Baltic Porter; smooth mouth feel with some dark malt and chocolate that works into some oaky coffee notes. Not as much wine as I figured would be in there from the nose. The barrels serve here to mellow out the flavors and add an oak earthiness to the beer.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
750ml bottle courtesy of me. Man, how I love me some Baltic porters. Pours a semi-thin looking deep brown, almost black. Almost no head. Aromas of cigarette butts, ashtrays and some oakiness. Flavor is oak filled cigarette butts, some roast, some creamy ashes. So good. Not getting a huge amount of wine or vinous notes, but there are some there. Finishes dry and okay, with loads of tobacco and nicotine. Low carb. Really good. This beer is so underrated.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Deep black-brown body, medium to thin light tan head, sparse lacing. Aggressive oak, tannic red wine, vanilla, and bittersweet chocolate. A bit too oaky-tannic for me as it clashes with the malts here. Medium to full bodied, gentle carbonation, tannic finish.

On tap at brewpub. Pours opaque black with than head. Excellent lacing. Oak, vanilla, roast, chocolate, grapes. Moderately bitter and sweet. Medium bodied. Creamy with light carbonation. Starts off strong, but less appealing when you get to the bottom of the glass.
