COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Victory Brewing Company is known for melding traditional styles and unique concepts to produce the highest quality, full flavored beers. Red Thunder does just that. By aging their popular Baltic Thunder in once-used red wine barrels from Wente Vineyards, Victory Brewing Company created Red Thunder. The burnished cocoa creaminess of the Baltic-style porter is accented by the tannic dryness of the wood to produce a rich, fruity final product.

750 ml. bottle. Thanks Dan! Pours a reddish brown with a decent biege head. Aroma of fruit, malt, chocolate, and wood. Taste is berries, wine, wood, and some chocolate. Not my favorite Victory brew. Interesting.

Sampled at the Raleigh Rare and Vintage Festival 2013. Clearish amber brown with ring of tan head. Nutty / vegetal aroma. Sweet roast and wood. Don’t get the red wine too much. Smells a little funky. Meh.

Bottle from wegmans Leesburg - pours dark clear red with a off white head. Aroma has dark fruits, raspberries, and chocolate. Taste is bitterish with some tannic dryness in the finish. I don’t think porter when I drink this one, but that doesn’t mean it’s not an interesting brew.

Bottle from Wegmans Leesburg. Pours ruby red with an inch of khaki foam. Lots of alcohol on the nose. A bit of licorice on the tongue along with the wood character. Finish lingers a bit. Nice after dinner brew.

I wasn’t a big fan of the regular Baltic Thunder. This one pours a lightly murky reddish brown with a musty/papery nose with a touch of fruit and vinous notes. A touch oxidized. Musty notes in the flavor with some dark grain notes. Vinous and bitter, very dry finish.

750 bottle. Pours a reddish brown. Aroma is a bit of brett. Taste is red wine and oak. Slight sour red to it. Seems to have really changed the base beer.

The aroma is dry red wine, oak, barely any hint of the porter underneath. The appearance is deep brown, red tinge when held up to light, cream colored head. The flavor is red wine, chocolate, roasty, oak. The finish is dry, red wine, bittersweet chocolate, pine needles. Medium in body. I remember really liking the Victory Baltic thunder. I’m not crazy about this. I think the barrel aging adds little, and maybe even detracts from the base beer.

Weak aroma and a dry chocolatey taste. Very light hints of wine. Could be an older bottle but overall unimpressive.

Poured from a 750ml bottle, thanks Doug. I am having a very hard time getting past the garbage aroma. There are some dry/astringent notes, cocoa, vinous, berries. Tastes better than it smells.
