4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
This is a very good beer. It has a strong aroma of dark fruits and peat. The body is smooth and full with a long lasting aftertaste. The flavor is a mix of a sweet malt with slight bitterness, some grape, bread, cola, and dark cherry.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours a ruby umber color with a couple fingers of gaseous tan foam. The nose is vinous tootsie rolls, a touch of raisin and sweet dark fruit. The palate is thick and sticky with lots of caramel and toffee overwhelming the vinous berry notes and chocolate roasted undertones. A bit disjointed and sweeter than expected.

2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
This brew poured a dark brown and had a big oak after taste. Not my cup of tea. But Victory is a very good brewery so I had to try this one. I normally like porters but this one was tough to finish

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bomber on 9/6/13. Pours clear dark brown with small tan head that lingers. Faint aroma of chocolate and toasted malt. Taste is toasted malt, chocolate and dark fruit, a bit tart or sour from the wine barrels I imagine. Lingering vanilla and oak. Little to no alcohol. Overall a very good beer. Pretty complex.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
(bottle) Iím a big fan of red wine barrel aged beers, and I thought the regular Baltic Thunder was good, so this seemed like a good thing to give a try. Pours a dark ruby red color that looks black in certain lighting. This is coupled with a large tan head that quickly settles to a thin cap. Lot of wine in the aroma, and this is a welcome sensation to my nostrils. Thereís plenty of oak and some light sour fruit as well. Chocolate lurks underneath the predominant wine barrel scent. Flavor holds more of the base beer with a good dose of roasted malt and dark chocolate showing up. Roasted malt seemed a bit harsh at first, but I got used to it. Barrel comes through on the finish and serves to dry things out quite a bit. Some plum-like quality right before the dry finish thatís matched with a faint booze warmth. Mouthfeel is smooth and carbonation is subdued too. Overall this was a pretty solid beer, but I was expecting a bit more.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: SEP 8, 2013 Wow, the nose on this is truly a heavy tannic wine. Its just lovely when paired with this porter. Some mild vanilla floats in as well. When poured this has a deep dark red / brown look. It sports a off white head. First sips produce a very smooth lactose feel, paired with chocolate, marshmellows, bitter cherry, and red wine. Followed by heavy tannic taste on the backend. Overall, this is damn good. Age may or may not help... Not sure.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Location: 750 ml bottle from State Line, 8/3/13
Aroma: The nose is heavy wine, dark malts, roast, some chocolate, anise, and wood
Appearance: It pours a dark brown color with a red hue, a very small head, and minimal lace
Flavor: The taste is much like the nose, very wine-like, a little malt flavor, and plenty of wood too
Palate: The body leans full, soft carbonation, feels bigger than 8.5%, and has an almost dry finish
They did not mess around with the wine barrel aging on this one. Honestly, if you told me this was a beer/wine mix I might not have argued, it has that many of the components that are typical to a red wine. I tend to be more of a beer guy than a wine guy, but I do enjoy a good wine on occasion. Anyway, this is definitely not an everyday beer for me, but I thought this worked. Thereís some nice complexity here.
