Victory Brewing Company is known for melding traditional styles and unique concepts to produce the highest quality, full flavored beers. Red Thunder does just that. By aging their popular Baltic Thunder in once-used red wine barrels from Wente Vineyards, Victory Brewing Company created Red Thunder. The burnished cocoa creaminess of the Baltic-style porter is accented by the tannic dryness of the wood to produce a rich, fruity final product.

Weak aroma and a dry chocolatey taste. Very light hints of wine. Could be an older bottle but overall unimpressive.

Pours a nice dark, almost black, brown. Aromas of chocolate, espresso and a little licorice. Big flavor, chocolate, burnt coffee, with a nice wine barrel finish to it.

Bomber. Pours a dark brown with a dissipating tan head and aroma of cocoa, coffee, and vanilla. Taste is of chocolate, coffee, and dark fruits along with nice vanilla and wood notes into the finish. Delicious and flavorful brew

With Z, pours a thick deep dark red mahogany brown pour with no head. Nose is a nice wooded oak and tannic ! Taste is fruity and oaky with a dry ness that captures the barrel aging . Finish is dry fruit, short and ends on the tannic oaky notes . Nice ! Quaff Score 8 / 10

Poured into a snifter. 3.25 A: Pours a deep brown color. One and a half fingers of frothy/creamy tan head. Retention is below average and a few wisps of lacing are left. 3.75 S: Wow does the wine barrel come through. The nose is surely centered around it. Vinous grape, big vanilla and oak, and moderate supple tannins. The base beer almost gets lost in there, but it does bring forth the barrel elements. Roasty malts, cocoa, tangy caramel, molasses. Again Iíll emphasize that this is heavy on the barrel, which isnít such a bad thing. 3.75 T: Like the nose, the barrel stands strong, but the base beer does come through better. The same barrel elements and grape as in the nose. Roasty malts, big caramel, molasses, dark fruitiness underneath. Quite tasty. 4.0 M: Lighter heavy body. Good moderate carbonation. Good creaminess and super smooth. Good here. 3.75 D: Seems like everything gets better when Victory puts their beers into barrels. Pick this one up, itís good. ★ 996 characters DavoleBomb, Oct 28, 2014

Poured a deep reddish brown with ample tan/reddish head. The aroma is red wine barrels, mild chocolate and cocoa nibs. some mild roasted malts, graham cracker, and dark fruits. The taste is pretty similar with dark chocolate, red wine, dark fruits, and some tart cherries. Dry finish. More tart than I thought it would be. Maybe some infection? Medium mouth, cotton. Pretty good overall.

Draft at Capones in Norristown, PA. Pours a very dark copper color with mahogany edges and a two finger frothy head that slowly fades into a lasting ring. Streaks of lace left behind. Roasted dark malt aroma with an earthy barrel and dry vinous notes integrated into the base beer. Toasted oak and dark grapes complimented by smokey, roasted malt. Hints of dark chocolate and burnt toast along with some charcoal and smoked meat but the oak and vinous fruit notes overpower the smoke beer characteristics a bit too much for my taste. Full bodied with a moderate barrel presence thatís nicely integrated into the base adding another dimension to the intense smokiness. Dry, toasted oak with vinous red wine notes countered by smoked/burnt malt, toast, charcoal and dark chocolate. Sweet up front from the barrel presence followed by smoke and roasted malt before finishing dry. Decent job barrel aging this beer but the wine and barrel notes take away from the smokiness that I like so much in the base beer.

750mL bottle poured into a snifter. The full bodied aroma is malty and thick with cherry wood and a light booze note that fades quick and takes a turn towards undertones of bakers chocolate and fruit with some wood. Overall, the aroma mellows relatively quickly. The beer is a deep, rich red brown with a brown dense, fizzy head that has mild retention and light lace. The taste is a medium high sweet and medium high bitter in turns. The texttire is oily and slick with a fizzy carbonation. The full woody body includes dark, tart fruit and molasses notes. The finish is crisp with tones of berry, mild licorice and a muted chocolate touch. The sticky aftertaste is mostly clean with a subtle alcohol warmth that turns to berry, then to a light chocolate and light caramel blend with some roasted coffee late.

On sale for $2.99 750ml. For the price, you canít beat it. Pours a light black, dark ruby red color, with a tan head. Aroma of burgundy, and dark fruits. Taste is similar, cherry, wine, crackers, and grass. Not much detection of alcohol. Medium mouthful. Overall, pretty good.
