Victory Brewing Company is known for melding traditional styles and unique concepts to produce the highest quality, full flavored beers. Red Thunder does just that. By aging their popular Baltic Thunder in once-used red wine barrels from Wente Vineyards, Victory Brewing Company created Red Thunder. The burnished cocoa creaminess of the Baltic-style porter is accented by the tannic dryness of the wood to produce a rich, fruity final product.

Shared graciously by eaglefan538’s dad. Roasty and acidic from red wine. The oak is also very prevalent. Not sticky or cloying or overdone on anything. Well crafted. Happy Thanksgiving!

Draft at Capones in Norristown, PA. Pours a very dark copper color with mahogany edges and a two finger frothy head that slowly fades into a lasting ring. Streaks of lace left behind. Roasted dark malt aroma with an earthy barrel and dry vinous notes integrated into the base beer. Toasted oak and dark grapes complimented by smokey, roasted malt. Hints of dark chocolate and burnt toast along with some charcoal and smoked meat but the oak and vinous fruit notes overpower the smoke beer characteristics a bit too much for my taste. Full bodied with a moderate barrel presence that’s nicely integrated into the base adding another dimension to the intense smokiness. Dry, toasted oak with vinous red wine notes countered by smoked/burnt malt, toast, charcoal and dark chocolate. Sweet up front from the barrel presence followed by smoke and roasted malt before finishing dry. Decent job barrel aging this beer but the wine and barrel notes take away from the smokiness that I like so much in the base beer.

750mL bottle poured into a snifter. The full bodied aroma is malty and thick with cherry wood and a light booze note that fades quick and takes a turn towards undertones of bakers chocolate and fruit with some wood. Overall, the aroma mellows relatively quickly. The beer is a deep, rich red brown with a brown dense, fizzy head that has mild retention and light lace. The taste is a medium high sweet and medium high bitter in turns. The texttire is oily and slick with a fizzy carbonation. The full woody body includes dark, tart fruit and molasses notes. The finish is crisp with tones of berry, mild licorice and a muted chocolate touch. The sticky aftertaste is mostly clean with a subtle alcohol warmth that turns to berry, then to a light chocolate and light caramel blend with some roasted coffee late.

On sale for $2.99 750ml. For the price, you can’t beat it. Pours a light black, dark ruby red color, with a tan head. Aroma of burgundy, and dark fruits. Taste is similar, cherry, wine, crackers, and grass. Not much detection of alcohol. Medium mouthful. Overall, pretty good.

Bottled August 6, 2013 and enjoyed September 14, 2015 in a Hopslam tulip/snifter. Look - Dark reddish brown. Very thin tan head. No lacing. Bubbles are large the ones that form. Tasty for a beer I expected to be light. Smell - Heavy booze smell, more like bourbon as opposed to wine. Weeds (not the kind you light and smoke). Sweet. Dark fruits. Taste - Sweet and boozy but subdued. I really wish I had a fresh one to compare this to. It is good. I will not lie and say there is no skunked taste, but only slightly in the finish. Feel - Very smooth. Heavier than water with no harsh carbonation. Fluffy. Overall - I opened this as a $3 or so discount special expecting to pour it down the drain. This held up well. Label says malt beverage but is more specifically a baltic porter!

Rated on 9-06-2015 (Corked and caged bottle) This beer’s appearance is a small smooth tan head that mostly diminished, dark brown opaque body, fast rising carbonation, and a fair amount of lacing adorns my glass. The aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, cocoa, earthy, dark fruits, vanilla, earthy, and alcohol. The flavor of this beer is roasted malt, vanilla, cocoa, coffee, chocolate, earthy, woody and has a dry finish. The mouthfeel is moderate carbonation and this beer is medium bodied. This is a very good tasting sipping beer that is well worth trying. It has a lot going on in the aroma and flavor and is a beer that I would definitely drink again.

I love Baltic Porters and this is one great example of one. This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a head of foamy with a frothy top finely sized brown colored bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind a no visible carbonation opaque black brown colored body and an excellent lacing. The nice aroma was vinous raisin and dark malt. The vinous mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish with a medium mild roasted malt aftertaste. The yummy flavor contained notes of semi-sweet roasted malt cloves raisin vinous burnt malt brown malt dark malt and breads. A wonderful best in class brew.

Unique and interesting wine/beer ratio. Really taste the grape skins and smell the barrels. Interesting mouth feel. Bottle
