Growler at Paul’s Hoboken Gathering: Deep golden in color, slightly hazy with a ring of white head. Nose has some Belgian fruity esters. Light banana and grain. The flavor is well hopped. Starts with some bisquity pale Belgian malts then leads to fruity phenolics. The finish is dry with apparent American hop character. Not bad.

Jul 6, 2008 Pours with a crystal clear amber-gold body topped by a medium thick, white head with a good amount of lacing. It’s spicy and hoppy with noted of grass, an underlying malty sweetness and some alcohol esters. Medium to full bodied and hot.

Jun 30, 2008 First, this is spelled wrong. I have seen the beer logo and it is Saphire, with one "h". Interesting combination of a Hallertau hop with a Belgian yeast. Hazy amber, good white head. Sweet malty and fruity nose, taste of malts, Belgian yeast, alcohol, diacetyl bubble gum, combination of Barleywine and Belgian, with a little Belgian funk in the end, before the hops ... I have wanted Victory to make a more up-to-date and more complex Belgian, following Allagash and Lost Abbey. I don’t know if this is it or not, but I’’ have another one and rerate.

Jun 28, 2008 Growler. Poured a lightly hazed gold with a white head. Light malty aroma with yeasty notes breaking up the sweetness. Sweet malt flavor with a hoppy middle and a bitter semi-dry finish. Medium bodied.

Jun 15, 2008 Thanks to Russ for this one. Clear amber body. Aroma has sweet bubblegum and yeast. Flavor is sweet syrupy, bubblegum, fruity up front, light banana. Body is quite thick.

Jun 11, 2008 Bottle shared by the generous Bill K himself at MBAS. Golden color with a small ( if any) head. Flavor tastes like a banana that fell on a dirty floor. Nice maltiness.
